Charmander is one of the starters that you can pick at the beginning of the game. If you don't pick them at Professor Oak's Lab, then you will need to either trade for one or replay the game again from scratch.
Best Starter Pokemon to Choose
Getting a Shiny Charmander is possible, as Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen doesn't shiny-lock its starters. You can soft reset in front of the Poke Ball and see if the next one is a shiny!
Since Charmander is one of the starters given to you as a gift, it can't be caught as wild Pokemon.
All Gift Pokemon and How to Get Them
| Nature | Increased Stat | Decreased Stat |
|---|---|---|
| Adamant | Attack | Sp. Attack |
| Modest | Sp. Attack | Attack |
An Adamant nature is a strong choice for Charmander because it boosts its Attack while lowering Special Attack. This allows Charmander and its evolutions to deal more damage with physical moves such as Slash, Earthquake, and Rock Slide, making it effective in physical attacking sets.
A Modest nature is another great option since it increases Special Attack, which is one of Charizard’s most important offensive stats. This makes powerful special moves like Flamethrower, Fire Blast, and Dragon Claw even more threatening.
