The Monolith

Clair Obscur is located in the Tainted Lumiere section of The Monolith, where it will be fought as an optional boss.

From the main road, move forward but head leftwards until a grapple point is visible. Continue heading left until a flight of stairs is seen across another grapple point. The boss will be located above the stair platform.

How to Beat Clair Obscur (Boss)

Use Area Attacks

Clair Obscur Area Attacks
Quickest way to deal with Clair Obscur is by using high damage area attacks such as Elemental Genesis to strike the boss and its supporting opposition.

Do note that Clair Obscur's minions, Clair and Obscur are immune to Light and Dark damage respectively so area attacks such as Phantom Stars may have reduced effectiveness.

Do Not Fall For Long Attack Timings

Clair Obscur Long Timings
Clair Obscur has two attack patterns with long windups which may bait the player into parrying early, taking damage in the process.

The first of these feature a two-hit long wind-up swing, wait for the sword to light up twice then wait for the drop to parry or dodge the attack. The second attack involves a delayed Gradient Attack which the player should counter to avoid massive damage.

Eliminate Clair and Obscur First

To make the fight easier, it is always advised to take out Clair and Obscur first by either committing to elemental area attacks to prevent them from supporting Clair Obscur and attacking the player's party.

Reducing the number of opponents in the fight will help the party deal more damage to the main boss.

Clair Obscur (Boss) Attack Patterns

Clair and Obscur Support

Clair or Obscur attacks the player.
How to Dodge Follow the attack strings for either character to dodge their attacks.
How to Counter Parry all combo strings if Clair or Obscur attacks to counter. Preferably end them both with area attacks.

Slow Attack

Clair Obscur does a two-hit long-winded slash to one target.
How to Dodge Wait for two purple flashes on Clair Obscur's sword.then dodge before the slash. This happens both swings.
How to Counter Wait for the sword to nearly hit. The player must parry both attacks successfully.

Fast Attack

Clair Obscur does a four-hit quick slash. They will do a Gradient Attack on the fourth hit, dealing massive damage to one target if it hits.
How to Dodge Wait for the audio cue and the sword flash to dodge the first three attack swings then time Gradient Counter on the last hit.
How to Counter Parry whenever the sword flashes then use Gradient Counter to completely nullify the attack.

Silencing Combo

Clair Obscur does a three-hit slash iinflicing Silence on the party if hit.
How to Dodge Dodge on the first instance of the purple wave being seen. The last slash will have a delay.
How to Counter Parry on the instance the beam is seen. Parry three times to counter.

Weakening Strike

Clair Obscur does a one-hit Weakening Strike, applying Defenceless or Powerless if hit.
How to Dodge Dodge the one-instance attack.
How to Counter Successfully parry the one-instance attack to cancel it and counter.
