Parry Timing relies on waiting until just before the enemy hits you with an attack in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. See how to Parry the enemy's attacks continuously and trigger a Counter attack during combat!
How to Parry and Counter in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Input a Parry Right Before an Attack
When your opponent is attacking, press the Parry input just before they hit your character. Parry Timing has the same timing as the Perfect Dodge, which requires you to wait until right before getting hit.
Parrying Restores AP and Negates Damage
A successful Parry will recover 1 AP, which is used on skills, and negates any damage to your character for the parried instance.
Parry Every Attack to Counter
You must successfully Parry every hit from the enemy to trigger a Counter attack, which automatically deals significant damage to the attacking opponent while completely blocking their attack's damage.
Gradient Counters Explained
Specifically for Gradient Attacks
Gradient Counters are a special type of counterattack reserved only for enemy Gradient Attacks. Parrying a Gradient Attack uses the Dash Input instead of the usual Parry Input.
The principle behind the parrying remains the same, but the timings will vary somewhat due to how Gradient Attacks are accompanied by a slow-down effect, as well as a grey screen.
Enemies can Combo With Gradient Attacks
Enemies can mix up their combos by including Gradient Attacks in their strings. This means that players will have to properly execute regular Parries, Jump Evades, and Gradient Parries, in order to properly respond to such a combo.
