You can only open the world map once you reach the overworld, after Spring Meadows. In the overworld, you can travel to any location and area you wish, provided your path isn't blocked by story progress.
Individual areas and zones, like Spring Meadows and Flying Waters do not have maps, as the developers wished for players to explore locations on their own, without guidance from a minimap.
However, areas are generally linear, as you move from one Expedition Flag rest point to the next.
These are all the areas and zones that you will encounter as part of the main 3 Acts of the narrative of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
We have categorized optional areas by how you are able to travel to them. See which optional areas you can reach by foot, swimming, flying, and more traversal abilities
These areas you can reach simply by walking to them on foot, during Act 1 of the game. These are available after players gain access to The Continent after completing Spring Meadows.
These areas can only be accessed after unlocking Esquie after the events in Esquie's Nest. Use Esquie to break the black rock spikes to enter these areas on the overworld.
These areas are only reachable after you've obtained Esquie's swimming ability at the start of Act 2, after completing Stone Wave Cliffs.
These areas you can only reach once Esquie has learned how to break through ocean corals after Old Lumiere during Act 2.
These areas are only accessible after Esquie has learned how to fly at the beginning of Act 3 after the events at The Monolith.
| Area | How to Get There |
|---|---|
| The Manor | The Manor can be accessed via several Manor Doors found within areas and in The Continent. |
| Gestral Beach | There are 5 Gestral Beach locations and you will need to be able to swim and fly with Esquie to reach them. |
| Painting Workshop | This area has 3 entrances around the world. You need to be able to swim to the first and second one, and fly to the third one. |
| The Abyss | You can go to this area through Renoir's Drafts. Go through the map to reach the Abyss. |
The interactive map tracks the following features of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33:

Bosses can be found within main story areas, optional areas, or in The Continent. Main story bosses are mandatory for story progression, while optional bosses are more difficult for the extra challenge and often net better rewards.

Weapons can be obtained as drops from enemies, bought from merchants, or are collected as loot during exploration. It is recommended to upgrade weapons as you explore to defeat enemies with ease, or unlock new passives to create new build opportunities.

Pictos are often obtained from enemy drops, merchant shops, or acquired as loot while exploring. These grant stats and passives when equipped, and are often the core of builds.

White Nevrons are special NPCs associated with quests that players can choose to eliminate or let live. Decisions made during their quest can affect the rewards obtained upon completion.

NPCs in the game can either give you quests or act as merchants where you can purchase items. Some merchants can be fought to gain access to additional wares in their shop.
List of All NPCs and Locations

Journals are records of past expeditions before Expedition 33, giving you a glimpse into how those missions failed and never returned to Lumière as the years went by. These can be found while exploring areas and The Continent.

There are a total of 9 Lost Gestrals that can be found in The Continent. Speak to Sastro in Camp to obtain rewards based on the number of Lost Gestrals found.
Paint Break is unlocked after finding your fourth Lost Gestral. This allows Strike to break Paint Spikes to gain additional loot, complete Paint Cages, or access new areas.
