Who Is Esquie?
A Mythical Creature From Stories
Esquie is a mythical creature whose stories and adventures are told to the children of Lumiere. It was unknown if he was real or not until the Expedition ran into him in their travels.
Helps in Overworld Exploration
Esquie joins the Expedition and helps them during their overworld travels. Esquie can traverse the overworld map faster than the Expedition members could on foot, and is even capable of swimming and flying.

Esquie Abilities and How to Unlock
Swimming
Esquie would have the ability to swim as early as the Stone Wave Cliffs area in Act 1 of the main story, after obtaining one of his favorite rocks for the main story. This ability let's you reach islands and areas across bodies of water!
Breaking Through Corals
Esquie obtains the ability to break through corals after completing the story in Old Lumiere. Breaking corals in the water can help you access even more locations that are otherwise blocked.
Flying in The Air
After the story events at The Monolith and defeating the Paintress, Esquie will be able to unlock the flying ability. This will allow you to explore areas such as the Flying Manor!
Diving Underwater
Esquie's diving ability requires you to have Relationship Level 6 with Esquie. Talk to him in the Camp and retrieve another special rock to get this ability. Diving will let you explore bubbling areas in the water and get resources from them!

Obtaining all of Esquie's abilities will give you the Trophy achievement, Plane, Train, and Submarine! You will naturally unlock Esquie's abilities as you progress the story and raise his Relationship levle, making this one of the easier trophies to get.

How to Get Esquie's Password
- Participate in the Tournament
- Defeat the Stranger
- Get the Password from Golgra
- Head to Esquie's Nest
Participate in the Tournament
You can get the password from Golgra after participating in the Tournament. Once you're ready, head to the arena where you'll battle three opponents to prove your strength to Golgra.
Unfortunately, since this is part of the main story, there are no other ways to get the password. Be sure to prepare before participating in the Tournament.
Best Builds for Each Character
Use the Rest Point to Prepare
If you need to upgrade attributes and learn skills, the Gestral Arena has a rest point or expedition flag you can use for this. You can find it in front of the arena on the left.
Defeat the Stranger
In addition to defeating the enemies Golgra mentioned, you also have to face one last opponent called The Stranger, who will later be revealed as Sciel. You do not need to win this battle, because whether you win or lose, Sciel will join your team.
Get the Password from Golgra
After your battle with Sciel, regardless of the outcome, head back to Golgra. You should be able to proceed with the story after this since you'll be given the password: ''Get outta my way.''
You can also stay and attempt to defeat Golgra, but it is highly discouraged since you will be underleveled.
Head to Esquie's Nest
With the password, you can now proceed and explore Esquie's Nest. This beautiful area also contains a couple of things you should not miss, such as a Mime and a Petank. Be sure to defeat them to get valuable rewards!
By the end of this area, after a cutscene, you'll also be able to unlock Esquie!
