Sorrowful Chapelier Location
Located in the Visages Sadness Vale
The Sorrowful Chapelier is fought by speaking to the Sadness Mask, located at the very end of the Sadness Vale sub area in the Visages. The path to the Sadness Vale is between the one leading to the Joy Vale, and the Peaks.
Interact with the Sadness Mask and go through its dialogue until it asks “What is he but a reflection of...” . Respond with Sadness to trigger a short cutscene wherein the Sorrowful Chappelier is summoned to fight.

How to Beat Sorrowful Chapelier
Mask Applies Exhaust
During the fight, the Sadness Mask will continuously apply Exhaust on a random target. Exhaust prevents AP Gain, meaning that you'll have to be extra careful about how you spend your AP during this fight.
You can opt to run effects like Cleansing Tint to alleviate the Exhausted characters, and allow them to gain AP normally.
Shoot Down the Chapelier Masks
The Sorrowful Chapelier will constantly summon Masks that will orbit it in battle. These Masks will be randomly flung at your party during the start of its turn, and will Silence targets if it lands.
You may dodge the masks as they come down, but it is recommended to be proactive and Aim and shoot at the masks instead. This will still hurt the Sorrowful Chapelier, so there is no damage lost.
Focus the Additional Enemies
The Sorrowful Chapelier is joined by a Boucheclier and a Moissoneuse. Take them out quickly to lessen the pressure in the long run, and make it easier to focus the Chapelier.
Sorrowful Chapelier Attack Patterns
Orbiting Masks
Sorrowful Chapelier launches masks, summoning 3 Masks that orbit it in battle. Randomly, at the start of its turns, a Mask will be flung at a target. Wait for the Mask to fall close to the character, then Dodge.
Strike Attack
Sorrowful Chapelier strikes, hitting a single target 3 times. To parry the swings, wait for the audio to shift into a higher pitch as this indicates that it is about to swing.
Axe Slash
Sorrowful Chapelier slashes with its axe, swiping at the party 3 times. You may parry the first two slashes, but the third will require a Jump Evade to dodge.
