How to Upgrade Weapons
There are two ways you can upgrade your weapons in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33:
Upgrade Weapons at Camp
You need to spend Chroma Catalysts at an NPC called The Curator. You will meet this spooky-looking NPC while progressing through the main story at Flying Waters. The Curator will move to your camp immediately afterwards.
We recommend saving your Chroma Catalysts for the mid-to-late-game, when you plan to upgrade a specific weapon for a build you are respeccing for.

Chroma Catalysts can be bought from merchants, found as item pick ups, and received as battle rewards. As shown in the table above, there are a total of 5 different types of Chroma Catalysts that can be used to upgrade weapons all the way up to a maximum of Level 33.
Upgrade at Expedition Flags After Act 2
After you complete Act 2, you can upgrade your weapons by interacting with any Expedition Flag, allowing you to upgrade weapons outside of your camp.
Upgrade Weapons by Defeating Certain Enemies and Bosses
Some enemies and bosses will drop weapons upon their defeat. If you already own the weapon, then you will receive a free upgrade. This is an alternative way you can upgrade your weapon without using Chroma Catalysts.
We recommend using this method for the early game, since you constantly receive new weapons and upgrades for free.

If you are wondering what weapons you need to upgrade for each character, we recommend upgrading the characters' best weapons per act. This way you will not be wasting the Chroma Catalysts you have gathered!

Weapons with Desirable Passive Effects
Most weapons come with passive effects that only unlock when you reach certain upgrade levels. These passive effects can turn a good weapon into an even better one, so make sure to take these effects into account.
How to Unlock Weapon Upgrade
Defeat the Curator in the Manor
To unlock Weapon upgrades, you'll need to defeat the Curator as part of the main story once you've progressed through the Flying Waters area.
Find the Curator Back at Camp
Once defeated, The Curator will be located at your camp. Head back to your camp and find The Curator in a cave away from the bonfire. Talk to him and choose the option to upgrade your weapon.
