A guide on how to beat Golgra, an Optional Boss in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. See if you should provoke Golgra to a duel as well as their weaknesses and location in here.
List of Contents

Provoking Golgra to a duel is not recommended during the early stages of the game. Golgra's health is in the millions and can easily one-shot low-level characters, making it a near-impossible fight to beat early on unless performed perfectly.
Golgra can be challenged to a duel any time, so players can feel free to level up and set up their builds first before the fight. Take note that if you speak to Golgra as Monoco, the conversation will directly lead to fight.
We recommend coming back later for the duel once you've reached at least level 60 and after finishing Act 2 and getting the Painted Power Picto/Lumina that breaks the 9,999 damage limit.

In addition to the victory rewards, players will gain a weapon based on the character used to defeat Golgra. Winning this duel with Maelle is also the only way to get Medalum if you missed it during the Sciel duel in Act 1.
You can also duel Golgra repeatedly to upgrade the weapons once you obtain them! For example, if you already have Maelle's Medalum, winning against Golgra with Maelle will upgrade Medalum, and can be repeated until it reaches the max weapon level.
Golgra can be found in Gestral Village. From the Gestral Village's Entrance rest point, head up the slope and enter the first large wooden door you see to enter the Chief's House to find Golgra at the end of the room.
Speak to Golgra after the events in Gestral Village to learn the password needed to enter Esquie's Nest. Players can choose to provoke Golgra to a duel afterwards.
The Painted Power is a necessity and both Solo Fighter and Cheater are highly preferred for the battle. Golgra's health is well in the millions and will be a one-on-one fight, needing Painted Power to exceed the damage cap to deal considerable damage as well as gain the full benefits of Solo Fighter's damage bonus.
The Cheater Lumina allows the character to act twice, creating opportunities such as casting a buff before an attack or setup character-specific traits such as Maelle's Virtuose Stance or Sciel's Foretell stacks.
Last Stand Luminas grants a buff when fighting alone, such as Powerful via Empowering Last Stand or 100% Critical Chance via Last Stand Critical. These buffs will be active throughout the one-on-one fight with Golgra giving players an extra edge in battle.

•
Glass Canon Glass Canon Deal 25% more damage, but take 25% more damage. • Inverted Affinity Inverted Affinity Apply Inverted on self for 3 turns on battle start. 50% increased damage while Inverted. • Warming Up Warming Up 5% increased damage per turn. Can stack up to 5 times. • Empowering Dodge Empowering Dodge 5% increased damage for each consecutive successful Dodge. Can stack up to 10 times. • Empowering Parry Empowering Parry Each successful Parry increases damage by 5% until end of the following turn. Taking any damage removes this buff. • Augmented Counter III Augmented Counter III 75% increased Counterattack damage. • First Offensive First Offensive First hit dealt and taken deals 50% more damage. • Augmented First Strike Augmented First Strike 50% increased damage on the first hit. Once per battle. • Roulette Roulette Every hit has a 50% chance to deal either 50% or 200% of its damage. |
Equip Luminas that grant damage boosts such as Glass Canon, Inverted Affinity, or Warming Up. Players that can perform consistent dodges can opt for Empowering Dodge, while those who can consistently parry can pair Empowering Parry with Augmented Counter.
Equipping First Offensive and Augmented First Strike allow burst damage on the first hit when equipped together, pairing well with Cheater to setup a buff before dealing damage. Players can gamble with Roulette as well for a 50% chance to deal 200% damage.
The duel itself does not have any fancy mechanics such as Goblu's flowers or Ultimate Sakapatate's broken state, making it a fight reliant on character build and player skill. It is best to deal as much damage as possible, learn Golgra's attacks, and rely on dodges and parries to mitigate damage instead.

Once Golgra goes below 50% HP, she will become enraged, and will apply Rush and Powerful on herself. She will also perform new combos that are faster and hit harder, so take care and make sure to dodge and parry.

Simon by far. Still haven't finished the final boss but probably nothing compared to him. Level 80 barely scraped by his first form and then realized there's a second and gave up to level up haha
