| Expert Mode | • Enemies deal significantly higher damage • Mastering dodges and parries is required |
Enemies will deal more damage in the Expedition and Expert Modes of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. If you want to familiarize with the gameplay and the unique playstyles of the different characters or just enjoy the story, you can play at Story Mode.
Adjusting Difficulty Settings
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 allows you to change the difficulty settings of the game anytime outside of battle.
To adjust the difficulty settings, you need to pause the game and go to Settings. You can adjust the game difficulty by going to Gameplay.
Updates to Story Mode
Note that as of the 1.3.0 patch, Story Mode has been adjusted. Parry and Dodge windows have increased up to 40% and incoming damage has been reduced significantly, making this a more distinct difficulty option for players just wanting to experience the game's story.
Note that you can still change difficulty midway if you choose to should story mode be too easy.

Story Mode For Beginners
If you have just picked up Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you should start playing at Story Mode, the easiest difficulty setting of the game. Story Mode will allow you to familliarize with the gameplay of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 especially in parrying and dodging.
If you also picked up Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for the story, you can also play the game at Story Mode.
Expedition and Expert Modes for Experienced Players
You can play the Expedition and Expert Modes after you have learned dodging and parrying in game. Since enemies deal more damage, you will need to parry and dodge in order to defeat your foes.
