Weapons Scale From Your Attributes
Weapons provide Attack Power which increases your character's damage. The Attack Power of your weapon scales depending on the Attribute listed in the weapon's tooltip.
As an example, If you put an attribute points to a weapon that scales with Defense and Agility like the Lighterim, the total Attack Power of Lighterim will increase, letting you deal more damage against enemies.
What Are Weapon Scaling Rank
Letters are used to denote the amount of bonus Attack Power your weapon can get from investing in its specified attributes. Each weapon's attribute is ranked from letters S, A, B, C, D with D being the lowest rank and S as the highest.
To further increase the damage you deal, you want to generally choose weapons that have S-Rank for the attribute you've invested your points in to increase the weapon's attack power.
Stat Scaling Increases Based on Level
The rank for your Weapon's Stat Scaling will change as soon as you reach Level 4, Level 20, and Level 33 threshold. Each weapon that reaches these threshold will increase their specific Attribute's rank by one.
As an example, Lanceram's that had C on Vitality and D on Agility will change to S on Vitality and A on Agility upon reaching the max level.
