It will take around 30 hours to beat Borderlands 4's main story. Get to know how long is takes to beat Borderlands 4 and what you can do in the game by reading below!

Completing all the main missions will take around 30 hours, including cutscenes. Your total playtime will depend on your chosen difficulty setting, build, and if you found any strong weapons early.

Since Borderlands 4 is a looter-shooter and an open world game, it has a ton of side content you can do like side missions. It is recommended to do them for stronger weapons and other upgrades.
Your playtime will be even longer if you are also trying to obtain all the Trophies and Achievements in the game. You could also try compeleting all your character's Challenges for more loot and rewards.

There is still a lot of content after the main story with Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode. You will get the maximum Borderlands 4 experience with the hardest boss fights and the best rewards.
It has five ranks of difficulty that need to be unlocked through a new of set Challenges. After unlocking a few, you can decide how challenging your playthrough will be.
What to do in Borderlands 4
---
・Main Story / Campaign ・Side Missions ・Clearing locations like Safehouses and Order Silos ・Collectibles ・Collectiing Legendary weapons and gear ・Unlocking All Vehicles ・Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode ・Weekly Missions ・Seasonal Mini-Events

After finishing the main story and unlocking Ultimate Vault Hunter mode, you will unlock three kinds of content that refresh every week: Weekly Big Encore Boss, Weekly Wildcard Missions, and Maurice's Black Market Machine.
The Weekly Big Encore Boss and Weekly Wildcard Missions are similar in that they offer great loot after a challenging fight. The Wildcard Missions, in particular, have a guaranteed Legendary item reward! You can access these by selecting Matchmaking in the main menu.
Maurice's Black Market Machine is a vending machine that trades cash for Legendary loot. Its location will change every week, so find it with some friends and compare your shop lists!

The developers have already released their post-launch roadmap, promising updates and content from release to the first quarter of 2026.
For the rest of 2025, there will be a free seasonal mini-event called Horrors of Kairos and the release of invincible bosses—extremely difficult enemies that drop the best loot in the game.
