✔︎Easy-to-use build ✔︎Trouble reliably draws enemy aggro ✔︎Trouble can solo clear mobs in lower difficulties |
✖︎Requires constant Trouble management ✖︎Relies on Repkit to boost damage ✖︎Long command skill cooldowns |
Vex' Leveling build shines in its ability to use Trouble to draw enemy aggro away from Vex. This allows you to freely cause chaos against enemies, without having to worry much about being swarmed by mobs.
With your Augment and Capstone setup focusing on Trouble drawing aggro, you need to command Trouble to attack priority targets such as Badasses and Bosses to improve Vex' gun damage, which can prove to be tricky, especially when facing multiple enemies at a time.
| Skill Tree | Here Comes Trouble |
|---|---|
| Action Skill: Phase Phamiliar | |
The Here Comes Trouble tree with the Phase Phamiliar action skill is our pick for the Leveling build. This skill tree focuses on survivability through healing and overshields with Kill Skills while steadily ramping up your damage with guns, ordnances, and your loyal summon, Trouble.
With your Minion, you can tear through enemy hordes using Trouble alongside your guns and ordnance. Trouble also draws plenty of enemy aggro, giving you more room to survive and control the battlefield.
From levels 2–16, focus on the passives in the Here Comes Trouble tree that buff your Summon, survivability, Kill Skill bonuses, and raw damage. These make Trouble incredibly powerful, especially during its Badass form.
At level 17, take the Hexus Nexus Augment, then start investing in Shocking Attunement, to rush unlocking your Unsealed Capstone.
As you approach the level cap, continue leveling passives and Kill Skills that enhance Repkits. Pick up Guns and Needles, and Fiendish Invigoration in the Vexcalation tree for more Repkit skills that synergize extremely well with Infusion.

Blink Strike
|
Hexus Nexus
|
In the early game, use Blink Strike to finish off enemies below 50% HP. Later, swap it for Hexus Nexus, to draw aggro, allowing you to shoot at enemies freely.
Hexus Nexus effectively turns Trouble into a much stronger tank and crowd-control tool. Thanks to the max health, healing, and overshield passive skills invested, Trouble will stay healthy through most fights despite taking much of the aggro.

| Trouble will now Mark his current target, causing them to take increased Gun Damage from Vex. Kill Skill. When a Marked enemy is killed, Trouble gains a Stack of Unsealed for a Duration, granting Health Regeneration and increased Damage. While Phase Phamiliar is active, Unsealed effects are doubled. This effect can stack. | ||
Unsealed allows Trouble to mark enemies and receive +50% Gun Damage from Vex, making it an exceptional skill especially against Bosses and Badasses.
Command Trouble to attack enemies, then use a Repkit to stack multiple buffs, allowing you to blitz through even the tankiest enemies!

SMGs are Vex’s best weapon choice. They complement her fast-paced playstyle as well, sticking close to Trouble and wreaking havoc up close.
Maliwan weapons and licensed parts pair great with Vex, allowing Vex to make full use of Infusion, and receiving additional stats when using Shock Weapons from your Skills.
Repkits with an Order manufacturer will typically provide you with multiple charges of Repkit Use. This compliments the leveling build playstyle, allowing you to use one charge at any time to boost your damage from your skills, and still have remaining charges that you can use once you are low on health.
| Grenade | Unique Trait |
|---|---|
Slippy |
Swordfish: Deals Melee Damage on detonation. |
Slippy is one of the best Ordnances you can use with this build, to capitalize on the aggro being drawn by Trouble.
Slippy can also be obtained early on, simply by fishing.
| Shield | Unique Trait |
|---|---|
Onion |
Shallot Shell: On Armor Segment break, grants Immunity to Damage for 2s. |
Onion provides Vex with additional defense, which you will eventually need especially if Trouble gets overwhelmed and goes on cooldown.
The damage immunity for 2 seconds should give you enough time to reposition, and wait for your Summon's cooldown, instead of being immediately put into Fight for Your Life mode.
| Enhancement | Effects |
|---|---|
| Maliwan Enhancement |
・Synthesizer - Guns with Maliwan-licensed parts have +25% Status Effect Damage ・Transfuser - On kill, Guns with Maliwan-licensed parts spread their active Status Effect to up to 3 nearby targets. |
Equipping a Maliwan Enhancement with either Synthesizer or Transfuser synergize well with this build since it gives Vex and Trouble additional Status Effect Damage.
Transfuser is great for Mob Clearing, while Synthesizer provides higher dps in general.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GOOJFC | Action Skill Cooldown Rate is increased by 10% | Action Skill Damage is increased by 15% | Action Skill Cooldown Rate is increased by an additional 20% | ||||||||
| Risky Boots | When Health is less than 35%, Damage Taken is reduced by 30% | When Health is less than 35%, Movement Speed is increased by 35% | |||||||||
We recommend taking 3 pieces of GOOJFC to improve your Action Skill cooldown and damage, making it easier to command Trouble as needed.
Risky Boots are a great 2 piece set you can take for your other equipment, which should aid in your survivability, especially against strong bosses in higher difficulties.
| Specialization | Tree and Effect |
|---|---|
Riddle You This
|
Whenever the Vault Hunter deals Gun Damage, gain a Stack of Riddle You This, increasing Gun Damage. Stacks are lost if a new Stack has not been gained for a Duration. Gun Damage: +1% per Stack Maximum Stacks: 50 Duration: 6 seconds |
In The Zone
|
While Aiming, the Vault Hunter gains increased Gun Damage and Critical Hit Damage per second. Bonuses are lost after 2 seconds of not Aiming. Gun Damage: +5% per Stack Critical Hit Damage: +5% per Stack Maximum Stacks: 5 |
Now With Caffeine
|
Reduce Action Skill Cooldown whenever a Repkit is activated. Action Skill Cooldown Reduction: 25% |
I Am A Gun
|
Action Skill Damage now benefits from increases to Gun Damage. Action Skill Damage: 50% of increases to Gun Damage. |
We recommend taking the following Specializations, with priority on unlocking Now With Caffeine, and I Am A Gun to further amplify the usage of Trouble.
Both In The Zone and Riddle You This provide Vex with additional Gun damage, allowing her to deal more damage once Trouble Taunts the enemies, and amplify Trouble Further once I Am A Gun is unlocked.
Using Here Comes Trouble as often as possible allows you to capitalize on Trouble's Badass Form, which should be enough to take on most normal enemies.
This allows you to run around the battlefield and use your guns to focus on other enemies, making clearing areas faster and more efficient.
As you approach the later stages of the build, start looking for Repkits with Order Licensed Parts, since these give you 2 Charges of your Repkit.
This improves Vex' survivability, while also giving you two charges to proc your buffs from Infusion.
To farm EXP efficiently, accept Side Missions and Bounties whenever possible, instead of just aimlessly wandering the map.
Side Missions and Bounties reward you with EXP upon completion, and most of these require you to fight various enemies, allowing you to gain EXP from multiple sources per mission.
With the Here Comes Trouble skill tree, your Phase Phamiliar summon Trouble serves as a key source of both damage and utility. Throughout the story, Trouble remains a dependable ally, helping you level quickly and cut down enemies regardless of your loot quality.

How come this build uses only SMG's and not AR's (Assault Rifles), or a mixture of the 2?? I love using a mixture of all the guns except the shotguns. I know shotguns are for up close
