The maximum level cap in Borderlands 4 is Level 50. Read on to learn what the level cap is, the benefits of reaching that level, and how to unlock the Specializations system.
List of Contents
The maximum level your characters can reach is 50. This means a fully leveled character will have 49 skill points. This level cap will increase with future updates and DLC just like in previous titles.
Once your character reaches Level 50, you will have unlocked most of the nodes in their skill trees. Plan your build to make the most out of the final nodes of a skill tree or respec a character with cash via the Respec Machine.
| Specialization | Primary Bonuses |
|---|---|
| Survivor | Increases health, shield, and damage reduction |
| Brute | Prioritizes gun damage and fire rate |
| Sharpshooter | Focuses on gun accuracy and critical hit damage |
| Runner | Strengthens melee damage and speeds up movement |
After completing the main story, you will unlock another leveling system called Specializations. This will let you further improve your build through unlocking nodes for additional stats and passive bonuses.

From here, you can choose bonuses from the 4 available nodes. You can equip up to 4 bonuses in total once you reach level 50 in Specialization.

Specialization nodes can produce bonus effects if you choose to level up the ones that are next to each other. It is highly recommended to upgrade these nodes as these bonus effect can be further leveled up!

The leveling meter will turn to purple from yellow. This purple meter indicates your progress towards leveling your Specialization and does not have a relation towards character level.
