Borderlands 4 will feature a fully seamless multiplayer that can feature up to 4 players per session. Together, you can take on tasks, missions, and side quests to progress the game!
Supports Couch Co-Op
Borderlands 4 also provides the option for 2-player split screen co-op, also known as couch co-op, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Crossplay Supported
Crossplay multiplayer is also a feature of Borderlands 4, allowing players from different platforms to play together. A SHiFT account is required to use this feature.

Highly Unlikely; No PVP in Previous Games Either
All previous Borderlands did not feature a PVP mode. It is highly unlikely that Borderlands 4 will add PVP to its list of multiplayer features.

Shared Story Progress Between All Players in Previous Games
The story progress that you will make in a multiplayer environment will carry over to your solo save file. This means that you can play solo and co-op seamlessly without losing your progress!
Cooperation and Coopetition Modes in Previous Games
Co-operation and Co-opetition are multiplayer modes that appeared in Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina's Wonderland. Co-operation mode lets you and your squad share all found loot while Co-opetiton mode will let you take an item for yourself without sharing it to the team.
