This guide will show you the fastest ways to level up fast in New World. Read on to learn on how to level your character fast from level 1 to 60, leveling guides for all crafting and trade skills, and New World's max level cap here!
List of Contents
While the temptation is there to power level using only the main quests, New World's leveling system works better if you increase your Faction Reputation and level up your Trade Skills alongside it.
This guide will tell you how to go about leveling from 1-60 while also preparing you for the end-game grind of New World's brutal northern regions.

As of Patch 1.0.4, New World now only has 3 starting beaches: Windsward, First Light, and Monarch's Bluff. Complete all main and side quests for your starting region to get a quick boost to at least, level 15+.
At some point, players will be asked to choose a faction. Remember to always accept faction missions with each round of questing you do.
You should always accept all available main quests, side quests, and faction missions before leaving the settlement to go questing. This is particularly true for regions like First Light and Monarch's Bluff as they usually have you walking longer distances from the settlement.
Better gear will always give players an advantage when questing in New World. At level 15, players will be able to equip their Faction's Light, Medium, or Heavy armor sets, giving them a significant stat boost that can carry them to level 25.
This is the primary reason for always picking up faction quests. Faction Gear will carry you all the way to late game as long as you buy them at the appropriate levels.
While main quests will remain unaffected, some side quests and faction missions will require at least level 40 in some gathering skills. Tracking & Skinning is one such skill, sometimes locking you out of finishing quests until you are able to skin certain animals.
Even though gathering only offers a bit of XP, the benefit of leveling up your gathering skills is that it allows you to also progress your crafting and refining skills. This is crucial during the early game as late game Trade Skill leveling will be tedious and monotonous at best.
If you're a magic weapon user, level up Arcana. If you're a War Hammer, Great Axe, or Sword and Shield user, level up Weaponsmithing. If you're a Spear, Hatchet, Bow, or Musket user, level up Engineering. Armoring will be left up to the player whether or not they choose to level it up.
Leveling up these Crafting skills will be well worth it despite how much farming players have to do. Not only will it allow you to make use of your gathered resources, it also allows you to stop relying on random drops for good weapons that fit your playstyle.
Once you've exhausted all the missions in your starting region, the next step is to go to a neighboring starter region and finish the quests there. If you started in Windsward, for example, finish the quests for either First Light or Monarch's Bluff.
While tedious, it is better to do it now when the rewards are more meaningful for a low level player. Having to return to this when you are somewhere between level 40-55 will be a draining experience.
At level 20, players will unlock the main story quest that leads up to getting their Tier 1 Azoth Staff. Finish assembling your staff to unlock the Destiny Unearthed main quest which rewards you with an Amrine Tuning Orb.
If you have not done so, start completing all the available quests in Windsward. At level 23 the quest Seeing Clearly will become available and it rewards you with another free Amrine Tuning Orb.
If possible, players can save Windsward for last when completing starter region missions as they will be returning here quite often for the first leg of the main quest.
After completing all the starter region quests, move on to Everfall and complete all the quests there. Despite being long and tedious, William Heron's quest chain at level 23 will reward players with the final free Amrine Tuning Orb.
With your 3 free tuning orbs secure, start running the Amrine Expedition with a group once you hit Level 25. Try to group up with other players or friends who have orbs as this will allow you to run the expedition multiple times in one sitting.
Note: Remember to always accept the Bones for Barkimedes quest before you enter the Amrine Expedition. Turning this in after each successful run will net you a lot of XP at levels 20-30.
Despite being at the appropriate level for either Cutlass Keys or Brightwood, it is recommended that players start running the Dead Man's Cove Elite Area in Monarch's Bluff instead.
While hard to solo at lower levels, simply look for a group via the recruitment channel and keep farming the area for XP and easy weapon mastery XP. Doing this will give you an edge once you get to Cutlass Keys or Brightwood.
This step is optional as it is perfectly possible to level up to 60 without leveling your trade skills. However, low-level trade skills at 60 will seriously limit the number of ways you can get better gear.
Try getting at least Mining or Gathering to 75-100 if you can, and Logging to at least 50. This will prepare you to craft the mid-game unique weapons that will give you a great boost from levels 35-45.
At this point, taking on two kinds of crafting trade skills will be too time consuming for fast leveling. Unless you're the crafter of your company, it is better to focus on one crafting trade skill for now.
It is recommended that players go for the weapon-making crafting skills like Arcana, Weaponsmithing, or Engineering as these offer more crafting options between different recipe tiers.
The next series of main quests will unlock at level 30. To optimize your questing, begin your level 30-45 grind in Brightwood as the first leg of the main story quest will occur here.
Finish all the quests in Brightwood (including multiple runs of faction missions) alongside the main quest to reach levels 35-37, comfortably.
Around this time, two quests will unlock that give a free Starstone Tuning Orb, each. These two orbs will allow you to run the Starstone Barrows Expedition twice, getting you to level 38-39 easily.
Lau Kang in Brightwood will give you a free tuning orb after you finish the settlement quest, Heart of Darkness. In Everfall, a new quest called Starstone of Shattering will be given by William Heron which gives the player another free Starstone Tuning Orb.
After Brightwood and running Starstone twice, players can resume the main story quests. They will be taken to Weaver's Fen first, then Cutlass Keys next. It is recommended that players only do the main quest in Weaver's Fen, ignoring the available quests in the settlement first.
While well within the level range of the region, quests in Weaver's Fen will pit players against enemies that are levels 40+. While doable, it will not be fast nor easy. Skip the region for now in favor of a more optimal route.
Finishing the level 30 segment of the main quests will get players to level 40-41. While well above the level range of Cutlass Keys, it is recommended that players exhaust all the quests in this region for a few reasons.
Due to the amount of walking in this region, it is better to get it out of the way now than later on. Additionally, the region is resource rich, allowing players to start raising their trade skill levels while questing.
The grind from level 80 to 100 will be painfully slow. However, it will pay off as the next tier of weapons (or armor) will unlock, allowing players to craft level 40+ weapons or armor to suit their needs.
This is insurance, especially if you get bad drops in Starstone Barrows. Instead of relying on 420 Gear Score drops, crafting will allow you to make your own (as well as netting you XP on the side).
Hold off on doing the level 40 segment of the main quest. Instead, after finishing Cutlass Keys, return to Weaver's Fen and complete all the quests there.
This detour will prepare you for one of the first real challenges of the main quest - the Depths Expedition - by getting you to level 45 easily.
The Depths Expedition in Restless Shore will be the first real taste of what end-game will look like. This is the first expedition that will require dedicated roles for each group member, so remember to adjust your recruitment messages accordingly.
The main quest will take you here, asking you to kill Thorpe in order to progress. At level 45 and with a competent tank and healer, this expedition should go smoothly.
The level 40 segment of the main story will have players running around in Restless Shore. Complete all the quests and sidequests (including faction missions) in the region to optimize the amount of coin and XP you gain here.
Newer players may not know this, but Restless Shore is one of the best places to farm Weapon Mastery XP. The two Lost Pirate camps in the north of the region will usually be camped by groups looking to get quick and easy weapon mastery XP.
Join a farming group or take it on solo (only if you have strong AOE damage) to give your abilities a large boost. With Patch 1.0.5 introducing cheaper attribute and weapon respec costs, this is a good way to get a feel for other weapon builds in the game.
Leveling from 45 to 50 will be slow-going. Exhaust the Restless Shore quests before heading to Great Cleave. While the region initially stated it was for level 41-50, the second half of the missions here will not unlock before level 45+.
Given players should now be well past level 45, this is one of the best times to venture into the no-man's land that is Great Cleave. Note: Great Cleave is a great area to level up your mining as there are plenty of nodes to collect here.
Many mid to late-game players will be wandering Great Cleave to do Corruption Runs. This is where large groups of players go from portal to portal, closing them to net high-level breach caches, Azoth, and XP.
Join a few of these in order to fund your fast travel costs as well as to earn a decent amount of XP. Breach caches at this level will also offer better rewards for crafting tuning orbs. Start stocking up on these in preparation for late-game.
After Great Cleave, make your way to Mourningdale and finish all the quests there. At this point, start saving your faction tokens in preparation for late-game gear as these are usually your only option outside of buying items with really good perk/stat rolls.
Note: Mourningdale is one of the best regions to level up harvesting. The abundant hemp, silkweed, and elemental essence nodes will boost this trade skill level quickly.
This is optional as item drops from levels 45-60 tend to be volatile when it comes to how good they are. However, raising a single relevant crafting skill to your build to 150 will make late-game more rewarding.
As an example, a lot of the rewards at late-game outside of expeditions will be high-level crafting materials and crafting recipes for high-level weapons . A high enough trade skill will allow you to make use of these rewards rather than simply selling them at the Trading Post.
At level 50, only quests in Valor Hold Outpost and part of the main quest will be available. Start questing in Edengrove to get these first few quests done.
Brightwood, Cutlass Keys, and Weaver's Fen will have given you high-level weapon or armor quests as you leveled up. Some examples of these are the Protective Wyrd Set, Battle Embracer's Set, and the Hope Manifest Life Staff.
While each quest will take you to far-flung regions, it is worth it to start these quest chains in preparation for using the powerful unique items at level 55.
At this point, players can now also begin questing in Ebonscale Reach. Enemies here will be harder to beat, but this is good preparation for the main quest requirement later on that has players enter the Dynasty Shipyard Expedition.
Note: Make sure to finish the first set of quests here. One particular quest given by Bartram Hopkins called Ebonscale Alligators will reward you with a bag that adds +255 carry weight, and has the Extra Pockets and Tanner's Burden perks.
Completing quests in Ebonscale Reach will eventually lead you to a quest called End of Her Reign given by Zeng Lingyun at the settlement. This quest will give you a free Dynasty Tuning Orb, allowing you to run Dynasty Shipyard for free.
Group up with your fellow 50+ players to try your hand at getting amazing weapons for the grind towards level 60.
With the amount of time players have during this level gap, it is recommended that they start raising their Gathering and Refining skills in order to unlock the collection of late-game materials like Orichalcum and Wirefiber.
Most of the late-game economy will center around these materials as well as the rare items players can get from lower level nodes. To ensure you have economic stability, start building up your trade skills for late-game.
This step is optional. However, high-level players consistently find themselves short on coin given how much they have to spend to get geared towards that mythical 600 Gear Score.
Having a level 200 or near level 200 crafting skill by the time you reach level 60 will be a good investment given the many money sinks of the end-game loop.
As you reach level 55, more quests in Ebonscale Reach will unlock. Start doing these quests in order to raise your level and prepare for the next expedition: Garden of Genesis.
At this point, the main quest Saboteur should already be available. Take it on for another free Dynasty Tuning Orb.
At level 55+ the last round of Edengrove quests will unlock at the Last Stand Outpost. Complete the questline here to get one of the free Genesis Tuning Orbs available in the game, and a 570 GS War Hammer.
Note: High level areas in Edengrove like Sapterlith are perfect for raising your Logging skill. Consider raising your logging to 175 to unlock the Ironwood Tree resource node.
If you have a dedicated group of friends or company-mates, Shattered Mountain is the way to go when questing towards 60. With lots of elite areas and difficult (yet rewarding) missions, Shattered Mountain is perfect if you want to level up as a group.
If you find yourself without a dedicated group, Reekwater is an option although it is only slightly forgiving. Eventually you will hit a wall in questing that requires either a group or a tank-DPS build.
At this point, players can opt to finish the last of their faction rank-up quests. This unlocks the final tier of faction gear that will carry you at level 60. Invest in these armors to prepare for end-game, especially since watermark farming takes a lot of time.
If you've noticed, the trend of 55 to 60 quests will need you to be in groups unless you have a powerful solo build. The same case is applicable to the 580 Gear Score weapon quests that you unlock at Weapon Mastery 20.
Group up with other people doing elite runs or are also doing weapon quests in order to complete the lengthy list of ingredients you need to forge these weapons of legend.
When to complete the main quest will be left up to the player. The Well Guardian fight is particularly difficult, so some preparation will be needed. Group up with other people try to complete the main story quest in order to finally secure the final Azoth Staff upgrade.
It cannot be stressed enough that leveling from 55 to 60 will be painfully slow. This is particularly true for people who cannot play the game for extended periods of time.
Take your time and try to level up a crafting skill to 200 as level 60 will be comprised mostly of optimizing one's gear score until you reach 600 GS. Having a crafting skill at 200 will greatly help this grind.
Log Off at a Settlement for Rested EXP
Prioritize Territory Standing XP Bonuses
Complete Three Faction Missions Daily
Volunteer For Expeditions
Complete Trade Skill Town Board Missions
|
Logging off at a settlement for a while will give your character a Rested XP Bonus when you log back in. This will give bonus XP gain whenever you do something that nets XP. Make sure that when you are logging off that you are in a settlement to get the most of your XP grinding when you come back!
Taking the XP Bonus every time it appears as a reward for your Territory Standing Rank Rewards is not the best choice as it does not scale very well. But getting it once or twice along the way for each region will greatly help in boosting your XP gains as you quest in a new area.
Territory Guide: How to Gain Territory Standing
Everyday, players will have 3 Faction Missions that reward a hefty daily bonus of XP, Coin, and Faction Tokens. To maximize your daily XP gain, make sure to complete at least three missions everyday to reap the rewards.
In servers with larger populations, always pay attention to the recruitment chat. Low-level players who just got their free tuning orbs will usually be looking for a party. Politely ask if you can join them in order to get a boost in both XP and Coin with each run.
Note: This tends to be harder to do for end-game expeditions like Lazarus Instrumentality and Garden of Genesis due to the quality of drops in those expeditions.
One way to gain additional XP in New World is to accept trade skill Town Board Missions whenever you can as it rewards you with a ton of XP per completion. These are the missions that ask you to retrieve or craft simple items like pelts or stone bricks.
Trade skill town board missions that require you to craft complicated items (such as the cooking quests) will not be worth it as you'll have to spend significantly more coin to get the rarer ingredients. Stick to simple recipes to maximize XP gain.
The Town Board Missions asking to bring X amount of items/resources are the easiest and fastest ones to complete for easy XP. If you don not want to farm, buying the needed materials from the Trading Post will also work.
Note: On small population servers, this might not be a viable strategy as any kind of resource in these servers tend to still cost a lot of coin due to scarcity.

Prioritize Getting Iron Tools or Better |
Choose the Gathering Speed Bonus |
Keep Mining Iron, Silver, and Gold During Early Game |
Start Mining Alchemy Stones At Level 50 |
Clear Out Enemies Before You Mine Nodes |
Mining can be leveled up quickly by mining Iron, Silver, and Gold Veins in the early game. Iron and Silver are abundant with the former having the most nodes that are easy to find. Getting Iron and better pickaxes will decrease the gathering time, with the Gathering speed Territory Standing bonus from further lowering the time it will take for you to mine these nodes.
Once you hit Mining Level 50, it is best to start mining Alchemy Stones as well. These will provide you more EXP as the amount from Iron, Silver, and Gold Veins will not be enough.
Cut Down Trees to Get Logging EXP |
Cut Down Trees Near Settlements |
Upgrade your Logging Axe from Flint |
Choose the Gathering Speed Bonus |
Start Gathering Mature Trees at Level 50 Logging |
Chop Wyrdwood and Ironwood Trees Once You Unlock Them |
Logging can be leveled up quickly by cutting down trees fast. Using an Axe better than the Flint one you get early on will make cutting down Young Trees much faster, combine it with the Gathering speed Territory Standing bonus to be as fast as possible. Because you will be cutting a lot of trees down to level up you will want to do it near a settlement as you can end up being encumbered fast if you hold onto the logs.
Once you reach certain levels you will unlock the ability to cut down new trees. You will want to start cutting these trees down as the Young Tree you start with will not give enough EXP by then.
Logging Guide
Harvest Plants and Magical Creatures for Harvesting EXP |
Craft or Upgrade Your Harvesting Sickle |
Harvest Herbs During the Early Game |
Gather Hemp from Grassland Areas |
Choose the Gathering Speed Bonus |
Start Gathering Silkweed and Wirefiber Once You Unlock Them |
Leveling Harvesting quickly will require you to harvest a bunch of Herbs and Hemp in the early game. To harvest them fast you will want to have the highest possible tier of Sickle equipped. Choosing the Gathering speed Territory Standing bonus will also increase your harvesting speed. Harvesting Magical Creatures will also increase your Harvesting, but they are much rarer.
Once you unlock the higher tier harvesting nodes like Silkweed and Wirefiber, you will want to start farming those as they will give more EXP.
Harvesting Guide
Use Iron Skinning Knives or Better |
Use a Bow or Musket for Hunting |
Hunt Prey and Farm Animals in the Early Game |
Hunt Predators for High EXP and Territory Standing |
Leveling up Tracking and Skinning will require you to hunt and skin wild animals, from harmless prey to dangerous predators. Having a high-tier skinning knife will make the skinning much quicker. If you are not leveled high or have weak equipment at the moment, it is faster to focus on prey (e.g., Rabbits, Boars, and Elk) and farm animals (e.g., Cows and Pigs) as they are weaker and mostly won't fight back.
Once you have better equipment you will want to hunt predators like Wolves and Lynxes. They will give more of a fight but will provide much more EXP.
Craft a Fishing Pole and Catch Fish |
Upgrade Your Fishing Poles |
Use Different Kinds of Bait for Fishing Bonuses |
Leveling up fishing will have you using fishing poles at bodies of water and catching fish. The higher-tier fishing poles will increase your chances of catching fish and increase your EXP gain, so craft or buy the best fishing pole you can get. Using Bait will also give different bonuses when fishing, with bigger and better fish giving more EXP.
Prioritize Crafting Charcoal When Starting Out |
Gather Resources Near Your Settlement |
Start Mining Iron and Silver Veins Once You Find Reliable Sources |
Choose The Gathering Speed Option |
Prioritize Gold Once You Reach Level 50 |
Buy Materials From The Trading Post |
Leveling up Smelting will require you to use the Smelter to refine raw materials into Refined materials. The fastest way of getting levels, in the beginning, is by turning Green Wood into Charcoal. This is easy as Green Wood is abundant and can be easily farmed or bought. Refining the early game ores will also net your a lot of EXP. Mining them can take a while but will also increase your Mining skill, but for the fastest way, you can just buy the raw ores.
Smelting Guide
Gather As Much Green Wood As Possible |
Refine In Bulk |
Level Up Your Logging Simultaneously |
Upgrade Your Logging Axe |
Buy Raw Materials From The Trading Post |
Woodworking is leveled up by refining raw wood materials into refined materials at the Woodshop. You can level your Logging at the same time as you will need a lot of wood to refine. But if you wish to level it up quickly without having to farm the wood, you can buy wood at the Trading Posts. Every time you unlock a new refined material, you will want to start getting the materials required for it and start refining those for more EXP.
Hunt Down Boars and Wolves |
Upgrade Your Skinning Knife |
Start Crafting Rugged Leather As Soon As You Reach Level 50 |
Buy Materials From The Trading Post |
Gaining EXP for Leatherworking will require you to turn raw hides into refined leathers at a Tannery. Hunting animals like Board and Wolves are the best source of Rawhide as they are weaker and are usually nearby settlements. You can also buy Rawhides if you wish to cut downtime. Once you unlock Rugged Leather you can further refine the Coarse Leathers that you have refined to get even more EXP.
Farm a Large Amount of Hemp |
Refine Plants Fibers at the Loom |
Start Weaving Sateen, Silk, and Infused Silk Once Unlocked |
You will need Fibers from Hemp and turn them into Linen to get EXP for Weaving at a Loom in the early game. You can also buy Fibers from the Trading Post, making it much faster to level Weaving. Once you unlock the next tier of refined material you will want to start to craft those for more EXP.
Craft Items Under the Stonecutting Skill Tree |
Bulk Craft Stone Blocks to Quickly Level Up Stonecutting |
Buy Raw Materials From the Trading Post |
Craft Gemstones for Massive EXP |
You will need to refine Stones into Stone Blocks at Stonecutting Tables for fast EXP in the beginning as Stones are plentiful and easy to farm. You can even buy them at Trading Posts to make the process faster. For even more EXP you will want to craft Gemstones, but these are much rarer to obtain. You can find them through mining but they can also be bought at Trading Posts for a price.
Cook Food with High Exp Reward |
Level Up Your Gathering Skills |
Buy Resources in Trading Post |
Use High Tier Kitchens |
Acquiring Cooking EXP will require you to turn ingredients into meals using Kitchens. In the beginning, you will only have access to a few recipes, we recommend you keep crafting the one that gives the most EXP. As you level up you acquire more recipes. If you can get their ingredients by gathering or buying them at the Trading Posts, then do so as they will give more EXP.
Craft Items Under the Weaponsmithing Skill Tree |
Bulk Craft Your Chosen Weapon to Level Up Weaponsmithing |
Salvage Unwanted Weapons |
In the beginning, you will need to craft tier 2 weapons at a Forge to get EXP for Weaponsmithing. These will require a lot of Iron Ingots that you can craft or buy. The amount of Iron Ore used in the materials will affect how much EXP that weapon will give. The different Iron weapons have the same ratios so it will not matter which ones you craft.
Craft Lots of Potions |
Level Up Your Gathering Skills |
Use the Trading Post for Resources |
Use High Tier Arcane Repository |
Arcana can be leveled up quickly by crafting potions at a Arcane Repository. These are easier to craft in bulk as they require fewer resources to craft. At first, you are going to only have access to a few potions, but once you unlock the higher tier potions it is recommended to craft them as they give more EXP.
Craft Armor in the Forge and Outfitting Station |
Level Up Your Gathering Skills |
Buy Resources From the Trading Post |
Bulk Craft Low-Tier Gloves |
You can gain levels by crafting armor recipes at the Forge or Outfitting Stations. It is recommended to bulk craft low-tier gloves and gauntlets as they use the least amount of resources making it easier to use up an exact amount for EXP gains. For Armoring level 0-49 we recommend Coard Leather Gloves and Iron Plate Gauntlets, then for Armoing 50+, you should craft Rugged Leather Gloves and Steel Plate Gauntlets.
Focus On Crafting Small Furnishings At The Beginning |
Once Your Mining Hits Level 20, Prioritize The Warm Iron Sconce |
Salvage Your Crafted Items |
Start Crafting Ash Casual Chairs Upon Hitting Level 50 |
Buy Materials From The Trading Post |
Furnishing is leveled up by crafting furnishings at a Workshop. This can be difficult as crafting furnishings can require a lot of resources with most of them using resources you can't just farm. In the beginning, you should craft small furnishings to get EXP. Buy resources at the Trading Posts if you can for faster leveling. You can salvage the furnishing you have crafted as well to get back some of the resources used.
Once you hit level 50+ we recommend crafting Ash Casual Chair for more EXP gain.
Craft Trinkets in the Outfitting Station |
Level Up Your Gathering Skills |
Buy Resources From the Trading Post |
Bulk Craft Flawed Amulets |
Leveling Jewelcrafting will require you to craft trinkets at the Outfitting Station. We recommend you craft low-tier trinkets as the resources for them are easier to obtain, saving you time and money. If you bought the resources needed for the trinkets you can sell them at Trading Posts to get back some of the money.
Craft Items Under the Engineering Skill Tree |
Bulk Craft Spears to Quickly Level Up Engineering |
Salvage Unwanted Equipment |
Engineering can be leveled up by crafting items under the Engineering Tree at Workshops or Forges . In the beginning, we recommend bulk crafting Treated Wood Spears as they only require refined wood which are easier to farm for. Besides the low-tier spear, you can also bulk craft tools higher than tier 1. They give decent EXP and can also be sold off at Trading Posts.
The highest possible level you can achieve in New World is currently Level 60. It can be increased in the future with added expansions, but for now, 60 is the max. After reaching max level, the only way to get stronger is to get the best gear available in the game by doing Expeditions or by crafting the equipment yourself.
