Trading Post Guide: How to Sell Items at the Trading Post

This guide will explain the Trading Post in New World. Learn how to buy and sell items using the Trading Post, as well as how the Trading Post works!

Trading Post Re-Enabled on November 16, 2021 (2:00PM PT)

The trading post and wealth transfers have been re-enabled by Amazon Games as of November 16, 2021 at 2 PM PT (5 PM EST/11 PM CEST). However, housing decoration items are now temporarily non-tradeable until further notice.

How to Unlock the Trading Post

Complete Trader's Market Quest

As of Patch 1.0.5, the Trading Post is now locked behind quest progression in order to combat botting. Trying to access it beforehand results in a message telling you to complete settlement quests first.

New characters will need to progress through the Watchtower quests until finally asked to head to their first settlement. The settlement quest Trader's Market will be given by the magistrate and completing it will unlock the Trading Post for you.

Trading Post Features

Buy Items from the Trading Post

To buy items from the Trading Post, click on the Buy tab and select from the item category. You can also type the name of the item on the search bar below the Buy tab.

Once you have found the item, click on it and select the quantity. Click the Buy Now button to confirm the order. However, do note that settlement taxes affect item prices when buying.

Place Buy Orders to Purchase Items in Bulk

Additionally, players can also place their own Buy Order to quickly sweep up any deals for items within their set price range. This is a handy feature for buying low-price raw materials in bulk even when away from the Trading Post.

To place a buy order, use the search bar to look for an item. Below its icon there should be a button to Place Buy Order. Note, you cannot place a buy order if your storage is full in that particular settlement.

Sell Items at the Trading Post

To sell items, click on the Sell tab and select an item from the My Sellable Items list (arranged alphabetically). Click on the Place Sell Order button and adjust the price of the item.

As of now, there is still no way to filter out certain items from the list. Players will have to manually scroll down to find things they want to sell.

Check Buy Orders and Sell Orders on My Orders

The My Orders tab contains the buy orders and sell orders that you currently have. This feature comes in handy when you need to check if the items you are selling have been sold at the Trading Post.

Settlement Taxes Affect Listing Prices

Before placing a buy order or sell order in the Trading Post, check the taxes of the settlement you are currently on. These taxes affect the listing and buy prices of the items sold at the Trading Post. Higher taxes means the items in the Trading Post are more expensive.

If you need to sell items, make sure to use a Trading Post in a settlement that has low taxes to gain a profit.

Check the Global Market

Players can also check to see what's being sold in other settlements or outposts from any Trading Post. To show the orders from all settlements and outposts, click the dropdown menu at the top right of the Trading Post screen and select All settlements.
