New World takes a few steps away from the traditional MMORPG formula with its lack of playable races and unique spin on how classes work. This guide will explain how classes are tied to your weapons and skills in New World, instead of choosing a class from character creation. Read on to know more!
New World's developer, Amazon Games, has always advertised that there would be no traditional rpg-class system in the game. This means there won't be specific classes for DPS, Healers, Tanks, and the like.
While straying from the traditional, the system works surprisingly well, allowing players to level up and craft builds that do not feel restrictive.
Instead of classes, New World has the Core Attribute system. This allows players to choose between multiple fighting styles depending on how their Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Focus, and Constitution attributes are distributed.
The selling point is that you aren't restricted to role-based playstyles. Gone are the long DPS dungeon queues and the perpetual lack of tanks. In New World, you can be both!
Attributes Guide: How Do Stats Work?
Alongside the revamped attribute system is New World's Weapon Mastery System. From the very start, players will be able to wield all the weapon types with no exceptions. You'll even get a second weapon slot once you hit level 5.
Combat will be dictated by the weapons you wield and how specialized your attributesand armor are to suit your loadout. Experiment with different combinations to flesh our your own unique playstyle!
Unlike other MMOs, New World launched without any playable races. Like the rest of the adventurers that wash up on Aeternum's shores, players will only be able to play as a human!
Everyone will start off with the same stats so, if you're looking to stand out amongst the many shipwrecked survivors, take your time creating your character. Use New World's robust character creation system to ensure you leave your mark in the server!
In place of races are New World's Factions — groups vying to control Aeternum's vast tracts of unexplored land. At some point during the main quest, players will be asked to join one of three factions.
Choose between the war-mongering Marauders, the secretive Syndicate, or the ever pious Covenant. While very different from a race system, New World's factions livens up the world with many PvE and PvP activities being tied to one's Faction.
