How to Level Up Leatherworking from 0 to 200

Leatherworking is a Refining Trade Skill that allows players to process Rawhide into different types of Leather that can be used for crafting weapons and armor. To process rawhide, players will have to go to a Settlement and use its Tannery.

Gather 1564 Rawhide

The fundamental resource when leveling Leatherworking is Rawhide, as it's the basis of this Trade Skill's craftable items. It's obtained by skinning various animals across Aeternum, such as Wolves, Bears, and Elk.

Since you'll need a large amount of Rawhide when leveling this skill to 200, you'll need to skin in an area that spawns lots of animals. The best area to do this would be at any Wolf Den since wolves can be found in abundance and have quick spawn rates here.

The Dankfur Hollow den in Windsward is especially recommended since it's near the region's Settlement. You can fill up your inventory with Rawhide, return to the Settlement to drop them off in your Storage, then go back to the den to continue gathering. Repeating this process will net you a more than enough supply of Rawhide.

Craft 390 Coarse Leather

Coarse Leather New World
For the first 50 levels of Leatherworking, you can only craft Coarse Leather. This gives 36 Leatherworking XP per piece crafted. While this is a small amount of experience, this resource is incredibly easy to craft with only one resource needed so you should be able to craft 390 Coarse Leather and get to Level 50 quickly.

For Levels 50 to 100, you'll need to continue gathering Rawhide and crafting Coarse Leather since it's a required resource. For gathering rawhide, you can continue using the method of farming at Wolf Dens. At 3220, this will take a long time, especially the step of skinning enough animals.

As a result, it may be more convenient to purchase Coarse Leather from the Trading Post since its prices are very affordable. This will speed up your leveling immensely.

Gather 805 Tannin

Tannin New World
For Leatherworking Levels 50 to 200, Tannin will be a required resource throughout. While you can use other types of Tannin, if you're mainly focusing on leveling Leatherworking, you can choose to primarily gather normal Tannin. It's the easiest to obtain and has no difference in experience gained compared to higher-tier types of Tannin.

Tannin can be obtained from chests and containers all over Aeternum, but this is not a reliable method of gathering this resource since it depends on chance. You can choose to purchase these at a Trading Post instead since they have a very low cost and can be bought in bulk.

Craft 805 Rugged Leather

Once you've obtained the above resources, head to your Settlement's Tannery and begin bulk crafting 805 Rugged Leather. Each piece of leather will net you 190 Leatherworking XP, which is a fairly large jump from the previous tier.

While this will take longer than the previous tier due to the increase in needed resources, it should still be straightforward since the process is largely the same.

The process for gathering resources needed to craft Rugged Leather may take a bit longer in Restless Shore since there are no nearby Wolf Dens.

Thankfully, the same area to farm thick hide will have a fairly large number of Elks, so you can farm the needed resources to craft Rugged Leather here as well. This area is in the southwest corner of the region.

Gather 713 Tannin

Tannin New World
Gathering Tannin at this tier is easier compared to the previous one since you'll need a lower amount. The process is still the same, however, with the easiest way to gather it being through purchasing it in bulk at a Trading Post.

In addition, make sure to look for chests whenever possible, especially when clearing villages infested with enemies since these will always have a lot of gatherable Tannin.

Gather 4278 Thick Hide

For Levels 100 to 150, it's recommended that you move to Restless Shore as this region will have the easiest area to farm Thick Hide, a required resource for Layered Leather. You can simply farm the Bobcats and Elks you find in this area repeatedly to gather enough Thick Hide. It's also best to farm here since it's right beside the region of Reekwater, which you'll need to go to for Levels 150 to 200.

If this is taking too long, you can also choose to purchase this resource at a Trading Post instead, since these are usually sold at affordable prices.

Craft 713 Layered Leather

Layered Leather New World
You can begin crafting 713 Layered Leather once you have enough resources. Each piece of leather gives 1665 Leatherworking XP, a significant jump from the past levels. As a result, it's best to focus on just crafting these since the previous types of leather won't have much of an effect on leveling up this skill.

Gather 1155 Tannin

Tannin Refining New World
You'll have to gather the most Tannin at this tier so it will take longer. Similar to the previous levels, you can speed up the process of gathering by purchasing through the Trading Post.

If you don't want to spend too much gold, however, you can instead craft Tannin using the refining recipe of a Material Converter and Tier 3 Refining Materials. Examples of Tier 3 Refining Materials that are easily found are Coarse Sandpaper and Weak Solvents. This allows you to use other materials gathered from the world and convert them into Tannin.

Bison locations in Reekwater

The additional resource needed to craft Infused Leather will be Iron Hide. This can only be found in animals with Levels of 50 and above so you'll have to stay in high-level regions. It's best to go to Reekwater since it has numerous Bison spawn points that are near the region's Settlement.

It's also right beside Restless Shore, where you'll have been farming resources for the previous tier, so it'll be a quick journey.

Craft 1155 Infused Leather

Infused Leather New World

To reach 200, start focusing on crafting Infused Leather once it's available. This gives a huge amount of experience at 8470 Leatherworking XP. The previous Leather resources will have negligible gains at this tier.

It may take significantly longer to reach 200 due to the extensive amount of resources needed to craft Infused Leather so make use of possible bonuses or boosts such as perks to aid your leveling.

Level Your Tracking & Skinning Simultaneously

New World - How to Level Up Tracking and Skinning

Leatherworking and Tracking & Skinning are linked Trade Skills, and your success with one generally determines your success with the other. You'll need higher-tier hide, specifically Thick Hide and Iron Hide, as you reach the later levels in Leatherworking. To gather these, the animals that drop these hides will require high levels in Tracking & Skinning.

Leveling these at the same time means you won't be delayed in reaching the max level for Leatherworking.

Upgrade Your Skinning Knife

You'll need a lot of Rawhide to go up in Leatherworking levels, and the basic Flint Skinning Knife will take too long to gather these. You'll need a better Skinning Knife, so try to upgrade to at least the Iron Skinning Knife. This will speed up the process immensely and end up netting you more XP.
