The first step in any MMORPG is setting your character's appearance and name! New World offers a decent selection of customization options across various aspects of your character. You can check them all by reading our guide below:
You'll end up on a beach in one of New World's starting territories after the tutorial:
New World's Starting Territories | |
---|---|
First Light | Everfall |
Windsward | Monarch's Bluff |
These beach areas act as primers that teach you additional information about certain mechanics via their quests. These quests give you a decent chunk of exp and gear as well, preparing you for the journey into Aeternum!
Once you've cleared the first batch of quests in your starting zone, You'll eventually be lead towards your territory's settlement! These settlements will act as your hub for a variety of activities such as crafting and a constant source of exp through town and faction missions!
See our Leveling Guide below for additional tips on how you can level up efficiently once you've settled down!
Leveling Guide: How to Level Up Quickly
Once you reach level 10, you'll be given a quest in which you'll be introduced to New World's three factions:

---|---|---|
Covenant | Marauders | Syndicate |
You'll be given a choice to join a faction during the same quest. More features will be unlocked once you've pledged your allegiance to any of them such as PvP, Companies (Guilds), and Invasions.
See our Faction Guide below to know more about each of these factions and how they affect the world of Aeternum!
Faction Guide: Differences Between Factions
After joining a faction, you have the option to take and complete Faction Missions. These missions earn you Faction Tokens that you use to buy faction armor.
The best way to farm for Faction Tokens is to complete PVP missions. These are high-risk missions that provide players with a greater amount of Faction Tokens and Reputation.
Note that dying while undertaking PVP missions will reset your progress, so be sure bring a few friends to keep you safe.
New World's territory system grants you benefits which make certain activities more rewarding as you do them within the territory.
You have an exclusive standing in each territory. This standing increases as you do activities such as Quests, Corrupted Breaches, Crafting, and more within the territory.
Every time you level up your standing, you can choose one of three to four possible benefits for that act as a permanent buff as long as your within the territory. These benefits can range from simple exp boosts to having the ability to purchase houses in a territory's settlement!
Earning high standing in each territory is a great way to maximize your time within them, so try to plan ahead and determine what kind of activities you want to do in specific territories!

Azoth is a special resource in New World that is highly used in Crafting and Fast Travel. Making sure you're topped off with Azoth at the beginning of the game ensures that you'll have a smoother time travelling between zones as you tackle main and side quests.
In terms of Crafting, azoth is used to increase a crafted item's chances of having gem slots and perks. In light of this, having a steady supply of Azoth is crucial to maximizing your crafting attempts during your time in Aeternum!
There are eleven types of weapons to choose from in New World. Each weapon has its own playstyle, along with strengths and weaknesses.
We recommend trying out all weapon types to get the feel of the game's combat system. Once you reach Level 5, you unlock the second weapon slot, allowing you to mix and match weapons to create your own viable build.
New World Builds and Character Guides (PVE and PVP)
Along with your character level, there are also seventeen trade skills to level up in New World. These skills allow you harvest and craft resources that will help you progress the main story and aid you in your journey.

While leveling up your Trade Skills, you may have an excess amount of raw materials and resources in your inventory or storage shed. To make use of these, you can sell them in the Trading Post to make a quick buck.
See the guide below to learn which resources you should sell for early game coin farming!

You can press the C key to crouch and press the Z key to prone. Crouching and proning allows you to hide your nameplate within a certain distance and is useful when sneaking around, especially if you are flagged for PVP.

New World has a 20 minute long AFK timer. If you leave the game running idle for 15 minutes, a notification will appear on the top right corner of the screen, warning that you have been detected as idle.
The game will give you 5 minutes to press any key once the notification appears. Letting the timer run out will kick you out of the game, sending you back to the login screen.
AFK Timer Length: How Long Is the AFK Timer?
Buying and owning a house allows you to fast travel to it, similar to recalling to an Inn. In addition, houses provide additional storage space, making them useful if you have a lot of items and resources in your storage shed.
