Exploration Hazards

New World - Corrupted Breaches Exploration Hazard

Corrupted Breaches are hazardous zones that spawn throughout the different territories of Aeternum. They turn the land into dark and desolate wastelands, making travel and resource gathering dangerous.

In addition to the breaches' hostile inhabitants, players traversing these corrupted areas will take environmental damage as soon as their Corruption Resistances drop to 0.

Prelude to Invasion

New World - Invasions

Corrupted Breaches also offer players a taste of one of New World's massive PvE events, Invasions. These major events will have players defending forts while fending off waves of Corrupted in a bid to safeguard their territory.

How to Cleanse Corrupted Breaches

Reach Leavel 20
Before players can even begin to tackle Corrupted Breaches, they will first need to reach level 20.
If you are below level 20, consider doing a handful of New World's many quests to reach the appropriate rank. Remember, even crafting, gathering, and refining will net you EXP.
Get the Azoth Staff New World - Obtain the Azoth Staff
Acquire the Azoth Staff via New World's main questline. While the time to acquire is lengthy, this tool is essential for cleansing Corrupted Breaches.
Beat Corrupted Breach Guardians Scarlet Nexus - Clearing Corrupted Breaches
To cleanse a corrupted breach, players must first defeat the area's Corrupted guardians. They will spawn with the same level as the breach and will usually come in waves.
Remember, there is no limit to the number of players you can bring along to help seal the breach. If you're having a hard time, consider partying up with your fellow travelers to defend Aeternum!
Use Azoth Staff to Cleanse Corrupted Breaches New World - Use Azoth Staff to Close the Corruption Breach
With the way now clear, interact with the corrupted breach using the Azoth staff (it should be equipped as one of your tools). Channel its power and cleanse the land of corruption!

Breach Levels

New World - Corrupted Breach Level Requirements

Corrupted breaches are gated by player level and Azoth Staff level. Make sure to choose corruption breaches appropriate for both your level and the Azoth Staff's level.

Remember: Without the right staff level, players will not be able to close the corrupted breach. Make sure that either you or one of your party members has the right staff level before fighting!

Cleansing Rewards

Upon successfully cleansing a corrupted breach, players will be rewarded with Azoth and Territory Standing. The surrounding area will also revert back to its original look.

Additionally, there will be a Breach Cache in the mix that gives players 1 item comparable to the chache's rarity (depends on the area's difficulty). Tackle harder corruption breaches to get even greater rewards!

Types of Corrupted Breaches

Corrupted Portal

New World - Corrupted Portal

Corrupted Portals are large breaches that will usually require 5 or more players to cleanse. They are characterized by the large, disc-like structure that dominates the landscape.

When tackling this breach, multiple waves of enemies will spawn. Each wave must be beaten in order to expose the portal. Once exposed, use the Azoth Staff to cleanse the area of corruption.

Corrupted Monolith

New World - Corrupted Monolith

Corrupted Monoliths are another type of breach characterized by their large, pillar-like structures. They will have weak points at their base that players have to destroy in order to collapse the monolith.

Waves of corrupted defenders will spawn trying to safeguard the monolith. Clear them out to expose the core to cleansing by the Azoth Staff.

Festering Hive

New World - Festering Hive

Festering Hives are another type of breach that players can encounter in New World. Unlike the previous 2, this type of breach can form around Spirit Shrines, making fast travel dangerous for all but the seasoned adventurer.

Players will need to get rid of the Hive's perimeter defenders before breaking down its entrance. Inside, a final guardian awaits. Once defeated, the core will be exposed, ready to be cleansed by the staff.

Infested Grove

New World - Infested Grove

Infested Groves are unique types of breaches in that they will not have a structure like the first 3. Instead, a hostile Corrupted Tendril will dominate the center of the crater attacking anyone that dares get close.

Players looking to cleanse this breach will have to defeat the grove's defenders and kill the Tendril. After the Tendril is killed, a final wave of corrupted will spawn alongside multiple explosive ground hazards. Clear these out to expose the core to cleansing.
