There are a total of 25 Routes in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. Do note though that the routes aren't necessarily gone through in numerical order, since you can visit routes in the 20s early on in the game.

Whenever you want to travel from one location to another, you will typically traverse through a route to get there. These locations also contain wild Pokemon, as well as Trainers who wish to battle you upon being seen.
