Tools in New World are primarily used to gather raw materials used in the Refining and Crafting trade skill trees. They are essential for progression and are introduced to players early on in the game.
Most gathering tools can be acquired by crafting them in a Settlement Workshop or a player Camp (for basic tools only). High-tier tools will allow players to gather resources faster and sometimes even net them rare crafting materials.
Azoth Staves are the exception as these special tools are used to close PvE instances called Corrupted Breaches. This is the only tool locked behind main quest progression.
When crafting gathering tools, players can use Special Resources to infuse their items with a multitude of Perks.
In New World, Perks give your crafted item different bonuses ranging from gathering speed buffs, item durability buffs, and even Luck buffs that increase your chances of finding rare crafting materials!
