Frostpunk 1886 Announcement Reveal

Original Frostpunk Remade Using The Unreal Engine

Frostpunk developer 11 bit Studios announced its upcoming game from the series, and it isn’t what fans expected. In a Twitter (X) post on April 24, they revealed Frostpunk 1886, a remake of the original game using the Unreal Engine.

According to the post, the game will feature a completely new Purpose Path, the long-awaited mod support, and more, all while capturing the legacy of the original. The developers delved deeper into this in a Steam post on April 24, where they mentioned their goals for this project.

11 bit Studios is moving on from their internal Liquid Engine, where the first game was built upon. Since Frostpunk 2 was developed using Unreal Engine 5, they realized how much they could have done for their first game, which is why they are going back to where it all began. "Our goal is to expand upon it with improved visuals, higher resolution, and all the other possibilities Unreal has to offer," they stated.

Eyeing A 2027 Release

Furthermore, the developers revealed that Frostpunk 1886 is now in development, and are committed to releasing the game in 2027. They intend this project to be a great introduction for newcomers to the world of Frostpunk, while catering to die-hard fans and creating a game that they would love to play on repeat.

They also promised completely new content in the future with possible DLCs. The studio aims to release games more often than once every 5+ years, and it will start with Frostpunk 1886. In the meantime, fans can enjoy Frostpunk 2 and its upcoming free major update on May 8, a console launch in the summer, and more, based on its roadmap.

Frostpunk 2 is available on PC, with its release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S coming this summer. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
