Shift can be used after getting a 1 More! turn in Persona 3 Reload (P3R). Read on to learn what Shift is, how to use it, and how to unlock it!
You can use Shift after you land a critical hit or attack an enemy's weakness. This lets you get a ''1 More!'' turn where the Shift option will be on the attack menu to let you switch to another party member.
If the next character you use gets another ''1 More!'', then they can also Shift to another character. This can be repeated until somebody cannot get a ''1 More!'' any longer.
Although, there are some conditions where you cannot use Shift. First, you cannot Shift to a party member if you have not unlocked the ability with them yet. Next, you also cannot Shift to party members with status conditions, or if the character you are controlling has a status condition.
You can unlock Shift by spending time with Party Members during your free time. Once you get to a certain rank with them, you will unlock their Shift ability. You must do this for all your party members if you want to use Shift with them.

Shift is a battle mechanic similar to Baton Pass in Persona 5. It lets you switch to another character without taking up a turn. While it does not buff the next character, it still gives you a strategic advantage to switch to a character that can exploit enemy weaknesses or to a character that can buff or heal your party when needed.
