Persona 3 Reload (P3R) retains its turn-based combat system from its original rendition, with a few changes. Learn the fundamentals of battle, and tips and tricks on how to deal as much damage as possible in a single turn in this guide!
List of Contents
Persona 3 Reload is a turn-based RPG, which means that each and every unit gets a turn in combat. Each turn can involve a multitude of actions, from attacking an enemy with your equipped weapon to casting a spell, or even using an item!
After these actions, that unit's turn will end. Be sure to stretegize thoroughly and determine what you need before acting, lest your entire party gets wiped out.
Unlike your party members, you have the ability to possess multiple Personas and switch between them at will! This is an important tactic to remember, since each and every Persona has a unique set of skills that can help you adapt to any situation.
It's also important to remember that switching Personas is a fast action, which means that your turn will not end no matter how many times you switch!
When push comes to shove, you may want to swap out a teammate for another one depending on what you need. Players can do this by accessing the Tactics option on any party member's turn and selecting which teammate to swap to.
However, do take note that swapping party members is not a fast action. You can either swap out teammates on your own turn, or they can swap themselves out on theirs, but it will ultimately end a turn.
One useful way to get as much out of a turn as possible is by issuing direct commands to your teammates rather than having them act on their own. This way, you can choose which action suits your current situation best.
Players can do this by going to the Tactics option during the Protagonist's turn and changing the party's command setup. Alternatively, players can do this under the System option in the menu screen when out of combat.
A game-changing tip in battle is by exploiting enemy weaknesses and avoiding their strengths. However, do be wary, as enemies can also exploit your party's weaknesses, which you can view in your party screen.
Hitting weaknesses will result in a slew of subsequent events that can either turn the tides heavily to your favor or against you. You can find out an enemy's weakness by using the Assist function.
Using the Survey function will have Fuuka (or Mitsuru in the early stages of the game) scan your opponents and reveal their strengths and weaknesses! Opponents (or team members) can either be strong or weak against a physical attack or an element.
Enemies can either be weak, resistant, immune to, or even absorb certain types of damage. Be sure to use the Survey function often to determine your strategy and hit them where it hurts!
Here comes the fun part. Whenever you exploit an enemy's weakness or land a critical hit, you knock them down and make them lose their turn until the next round, and you get to do 1 More thing in yours!
You can keep your turn going for as long as possible so long as you keep hitting weak points! But of course, you need to constantly be on your guard, as opponents can do the same thing to you!
Another very useful tactic is the Baton Pass system, which allows you to pass your 1 More to a teammate! This will enable you to hit as many weaknesses as possible should you face a diverse group of enemies.
Do take note that the Baton Pass system can only be unlocked for each teammate if you reach their corresponding Social Link level.
An All-Out Attack is a powerful move where your entire party unleashes carnage on all enemies at the same time, dealing devastating damage. This can be done once all opponents are knocked down.
To continually unleash All-Out Attacks, use your 1 Mores and Baton Passes to hit all of the enemies' weaknesses one by one! If possible, use multi-targeting spells to hit several opponents at once!
A new addition to Persona 3 Reload's battle system is Theurgia, which unleashes a devastating attack using two Personas in your arsenal!
To unleash Theurgia, keep attacking and defeating opponents until your Theurgia gauge is full!
