Chrono Cross Remaster: Radical Dreamers

How to Beat Dario (Boss)

Dario Banner
This is a boss guide on how to beat Dario in Chrono Cross Remaster: The Radical Dreamers Edition. Read on to learn more information on Dario, his Abilities, item drops, and the strategy to beat Dario with or without the Black Plate!

How to Beat Dario

Equipping the Black Plate

Given that Dario is a Black-innate boss with high attack power and strong Tech Skills, his attacks can easily take Serge down or any White-innate characters in a single turn.

That said, equipping the Black Plate to save one of your party members from his Tech Skills is a no brainer.

Beating Dario Without the Black Plate

There is also a way to manipulate his moves in such a way that he will never get to use his Tech Skills and Healing.

If you perfectly manilpulate Dario's moves, you can even beat him without having to equip the Black Plate!

Turn Counting + Green/Red Manipulation

Riddel Casting Inferno

Dario counters each Element use with a specific move on its own. Below are the corresponding moves he will make depending on the Element casted onto him.

Green Lo Res
YellowBat Eye
Red Numble
Blue Weaken
Black Recover All
White Conducta Rod

Every time Dario counter attacks, his hidden move counter resets and he will move again on the 7th action point spent. To better explain how the action point mechanics work, refer to our move table below.

Move Type Action Point Spent
Single Defend
Light Attack
Element Use
1
Heavy Attack 2
Fierce Attack 3

In total, you can consume 6 stamina for attacks and 1 element each turn. To abuse this, we'll want to manually control Dario's moves by using an element every 7th move so Dario will not use his own moves against your party at all and will only rely on his debuffs.

Be wary that not all counters are safe, from the list above, Conducta Rod and Recover All are the two worst counters Dario can use so avoid using Black or White Elements at all in this fight!

The Red or Green Moveset Cycle

For this fight, we'll want to only equip Red offensive Elements and Green offensive Elements. For our move cycle, we'll only do 6 light attacks then an Element cast per character, this will ensure that we will always get the most Element grid level we can get, simply repeat this forever and slowly but surely, Dario will slowly die without dealing any damage to your party at all.

General Tips

Beating Dario Will Give You the Mastermune

Mastermune

After defeating Dario, Serge's currently equipped weapon will turn into the Mastermune, which is Serge's strongest weapon in the game, known for dealing high chance of critical damage.

Beating Dario and getting the Mastermune is highly recommended especially if you want to take on the Criosphinx, Chrono Cross' superboss.

Riddel is Required for the Battle

Riddel Lv 7 Tech Skill

Riddel being a character close to Dario, is a requirement for this battle to trigger, as well as to unlock Riddel's Level 7 Tech Skill, Snake Fangs.

The manipulation of Dario's moves then becomes more important given that Riddel is a White-innate character, since Dario can easily take her down in a single hit with his Black-innate Tech Skills.
