Meaning Behind the Secret Ending

Who are the People Talked About?

The characters referred to in the Secret Ending Scene are the characters of Radical Dreamers, namely Serge, Kid, and Magil.

This deduction is based on the text that mentions a group of three: a young man and woman, as well as a masked man with silver hair - all of which describing the characters of Radical Dreamers perfectly.

Magil's True Identity

Magil, sometimes referred to as Mag by Kid, is known to be Magus from Chrono Trigger, a recruitable character who spent most of his life preparing to kill Lavos after it destroyed his home as a kid and got sent back to a different timeline upom the destruction of the Kingdom of Zeal.

In Chrono Trigger, Magus hid under the guise of a prophet and came back to his home (much older now) in hopes of killing Lavos which would then stop the destruction of his kingdom, saving his sister Schala, and preventing himself from being sent to a different timeline.

Baton Pass to a New Set of Heroes

The ‘her’ being longed for in the Secret Ending Scene is Magus’ older sister, Schala.

The text implies that eternity won't take long given all that he has endured. At the latter part of the text, Magus takes a look at his two comrades, Serge and Kid, preparing for another adventure, believing that they can find peace and Schala in his stead, alluding to the events that will then occur in Chrono Cross.

Comments Section

Is Radical Dreamers Canon?

Radical Dreamers was known to be canon until the release of Chrono Cross in 1999, wherein story changes were made, making the events of Radical Dreamers inconsistent altogether.

Radical Dreamers was then dubbed as non-canon and said to have occurred in an alternate timeline.

Guile Was Originally Set to Be Magus

Magil, one of the characters in Radical Dreamers, was nowhere to be found in Chrono Cross. However, he was initially included in the roster of characters but was later scrapped, leading to the creation of Guile instead.

The secret ending scene attempts to bridge Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross together using Radical Dreamers in between (despite being non-canon), explaining the absence of Magil in Chrono Cross by having him pass the responsibility of finding Schala to Serge and Kid instead.
