Accept Request in Cape Howl (Another World)

Recruiting Kid can be done simply by agreeing to her offer of joining your party after defeating Karsh, Solt and Peppor at Cape Howl (Another World).

How to Get Both Kid and Leena

Recruiting her right away is not ideal as it locks you out of another recruitable character, Leena.

It is highly recommended to reject Kid's offer thrice in Cape Howl (Another World) in order to have both her and Leena to your party.

If you rejected Kid thrice in Cape Howl (Another World), you'll have the chance to recruit her in your party in Termina (Another World).

From your encounter with her here, she won't take no for an answer, which is good because now you'll have her and Leena to your party!

Kid Gets Poisoned

After infiltrating Viper Manor (Another World), certain turn of events will lead to Kid getting poisoned and would have to leave your party for a little while.

You will be given an option to save Kid or not, but will ultimately end with Kid rejoining your party.

Kid Joins Dark Serge

After Serge switches bodies with Lynx at Fort Dragonia (Another World), she will join Lynx (in Serge's body) and you will be able to get her back to your party until near the end of the game, once Serge has gotten his body back.

Complete Orphanage on Fire Sidequest

After obtaining the Chrono Cross and the Mastermune, the sidequest to save Kid from a coma will be available.

Completing this sidequest will not only bring Kid back to your party, but is also the only time you can get her Level 7 Tech Skill, Hot Shot!

How to Unlock Kid Level 7 Tech Skill Hot Shot

Proceed to the Burning Orphanage

The burning orphanage is a location that can only be accessed by interacting with Kid using the Mastermune or the Chrono Cross. Using the former allows you to enter the area with your whole party while the latter will only have Serge which makes navigating the area much more difficult.

Interact With the machine on the First Floor

You'll see a machine on the burning orphanage (not the robot) on the upper right area beside the clock. Interact with it to get prompted with a series of input. Enter L, △, R, △ from the choices in proper order to obtain the Hot Shot Tech.

Kid Story Explained

This section contains spoilers for the main story of Chrono Cross as well as parts of Chrono Trigger.

Is Kid Schala?

Kid is a split clone of Schala, a character from Chrono Trigger. Upon fusing with Lavos during the events of Chrono Trigger, Schala cloned herself before being consumed completely by the Time Devourer and sent her clone to 1004 A.D. in hopes of possibly being saved one day.

The newborn clone was then found by Lucca in a forest and immediately took her in, later naming her as Kid.

Orphanage on Fire

Over a decade later, Lucca's home where she took care of orphans including Kid got burned down by Lynx and Harle with the sole intention of preventing Kid from intervening with their search for the Frozen Flame. Being the only survivor from the fire, Kid swore that she'll exact revenge against Lynx one day.

Lucca's Death

While there is no confirmation whether Lucca died in the fire, it is heavily implied that she did during that moment. However, she had the foresight to know that someone might come along and put her life in danger after figuring out the true identity of Kid.

This is later revealed after Luccia showed Kid a letter written by Lucca after Serge and his allies saves Kid from a coma.

Kid's World Splitting Quest

After the events of the fire, Kid was approached by Belthasar to prevent a child from drowning five years prior. This child would later be revealed as Serge, and saving him split the world in two: one where Serge lived and another where he has died.

Her actions has caused her timeline to be altered slightly and her journey to exact revenge against Lynx begins as she bumps into Serge at Cape Howl.

The events that follow are that of Chrono Cross, wherein she and Serge explore the El Nido archipelago to find the Frozen Flame, learn about the truth behind their existence, and ultimately find peace for themselves and all that have come before them.

Events After the True Ending

After Serge uses the Chrono Cross against the Time Devourer, he and his allies manage to free Schala and defeat Lavos in the process.

It is heavily implied that Kid had fused with Schala knowing that they are one. Details about the fusion of the two are unclear, but it is stated in the ending text that wherever she may be or who she is after all that has transpired, she will eventually find a way back to Serge and they will be together again.

Kid in Radical Dreamers

One of the Three Protagonists

Alongside Serge and Magil, Kid is one of the protagonists of the text-based adventure game, Radical Dreamers.

Radical Dreamers' story is presented through Serge's point of view and chronicles the journey of the band of thieves as they make their way to Viper Manor to face off against Lynx and take the Frozen Flame.
