Atsu Leaves the Onryo Identity

The Finale

Atsu abandons her Onryo identity, choosing to fight not out of vengeance but to protect her new family. This is symbolized through Atsu's action of burning her sash, without crossing the name of Saito.

The Saito Brothers.png

The cycle of death and revenge is present in Atsu and Saito's families. This is represented by the two characters' desire for vengeance, but is eventually broken by Atsu.

Though it may be argued that Atsu finished the cycle by killing Saito, her motivation for finishing Saito is to protect her newfound family, not to avenge what she has lost. Note that this is on the realm of subjectivity, tell us in the comments what's your take on the ending!

Ending

Atsu leaves the Onryo behind, while Jin embraces the Ghost. This does not mean that one character is better or worse than the other, but these results are reflected through the weight of their responsibility.

Atsu left the Onryo because her responsibility is to her family, while Jin embraced the Ghost to forge himself into a symbol that his people needed.
