You can freely change the difficulty setting in Ghost of Yotei to Casual, Easy, Medium, Hard, Lethal and finally Custom. Learn more about the difference between each difficulty and the best difficulty setting here!

Ghost of Yotei Best Difficulty Settings

Easy for Beginners

Ghost of Yotei - Horse Ride
Easy allows players to enjoy the story while retaining some of the difficulty of the game. Easy will help you get used to the game without missing anything, and once you are familiar to it, you can increase the difficulty anytime you want.

Lethal for Hardcore Players

Ghost of Yotei - Lethal Mode
Lethal offers a different kind of difficulty. You will die in one hit, and so will the enemies. Lethal will ask for perfection in everything. Once you get used to the game and are not taking any damage, you can try this difficulty to test your skills.

Ghost of Yotei Difficulty Levels

All Difficulty Levels

Difficulty Difference
Casual Enjoy Atsu's story and explore Ezo with the lowest combat challenge.
• Lowest Damage Taken
• Extremely forgiving Parry and Dodge Window
• Breeze through Stealth
Easy Experience Atsu's story and explore Eezo with minimal challenge.
• Lower Damage Taken
• Wider Parry and Dodge Window
• Only 1 enemy will fight you in a swarm
• Easier Stealth
Medium A well-rounded gameplay experience with moderate challenge.
• Normal Damage Taken
• Normal Parry and Dodge Timing
• 1-2 enemies will fight you in a swarm
• Normal Stealth
Hard For those unafraid of death and brave enough to face considerable challenge.
• Higher Damage Taken
• Tighter Parry and Dodge Timing
• 1-3 enemies will fight you in a swarm
• Punishing Stealth
Lethal Death is always close at hand. A single sword strike is lethal.
• You and enemies die in one hit
• Perfect Parry and Dodge Timing have tiny windows
• 2-3 enemies will fight you in a swarm
• More Punishing Stealth
Custom Customize the difficulty of your gameplay experience.
You may customize the following settings:
• Enemy Aggression
• Timing Windows
• Enemy Damage
• Stealth
• Hero Bonus Perks

Unlike most games, Ghost of Yotei's increase in difficulty does not make enemies have higher health. Choosing higher difficulty means more enemies will swarm you in a fight, tighter parry timing and dodges, harsher stealth, and more damage received. AI behavior is the same between difficulty.

Increased Difficulty on New Game Plus

New Game Plus Difficulty
All of the difficulty modes above are slightly increased in New Game Plus to provide new challenge to players, as they can use all their gear and abilities from the previous playthrough. All difficulty modes will have a "Plus (+)" sign on New Game Plus to indicate the difficulty increase.

Is There New Game Plus?

Lethal Available From the Get-Go

Unlike in Ghost of Tsushima, the Lethal difficulty level is available from the start of the game, whereas in the last game, it was added post release.

Changing Difficulty Settings

Ghost of Yotei allows players to change difficulty anytime outside of combat.

To adjust the difficulty settings, simply go to the Settings, search for Gameplay and adjust the difficulty there as you see fit.

Is There a Difficulty Trophy?

There is No Difficulty Trophy Available

There are no trophies locked behind any difficulties in Ghost of Yotei. This means that you can still obtain Platinum if you finish the game on Casual or Lethal difficulty.

Lethal difficulty doesn't make either you or enemies die from 1 hit. From the start of the game it take 2 hits for you to die and couple more for the enemies.

Hi Zuzia! Thank you for your comment. Upon checking, the Lethal mode for Ghost of Tsushima was added post-release of the game. After that patch went live, players could access Lethal Mode at the start of the game.
