Parrying is a lot more rewarding than blocking. Successfully parrying an attack disrupts an enemy's attack combo and leaves them vulnerable for an attack or two.

Each weapon can be countered by a specific type of weapon, and knowing these matchups will adjust on the fly to help you defeat enemies quickly. Using a weapon that effectively counters an enemy will break their guard faster and leave them vulnerable to attacks.

Glints indicate what kind of attack type an enemy will be making. Anticipataing glints can help you retaliate in the right way.
A blue glint means the attack cannot be blocked but can be parried
A red glint means the attack can only be dodged.
A yellow glint means you must execute a heavy attack before your enemy disarms you.

Armor in Ghost of Yotei has different effects suited to various playstyles. Some armor improves exploration by clearing more fog from the map. Others are designed for long-range combat, tank builds, or a more melee-focused approach. You can also make use of the loadout menu to quickswap to suit your needs!
List of All Armor

A total of six charms can be equipped in Ghost of Yotei, each with different effects that make combat more easier. Some of the charms synergize well with your armor's effects, increasing your strength in battle if built efficiently.
List of All Charms

Ghost of Yotei encourages exploration to seek out activities related to increasing your maximum Spirit from Bamboo Strikes, maximum Health from hot springs, and gain new techniques from Altars of Reflection. You can buy maps from Isaburo the cartographer to find these points of interests.

The Casual difficulty is perfect for players looking to enjoy the story, and Lethal for players looking to conquer the land of Ezo through brutal combat. Should you be struggling in parrying but not necessarily combat itself, you can customize your difficulty by widening the parry window, and leave enemy aggression as is.

Make use of the Guiding Wind frequently to get to your destination without using your map! Through this mechanic, you'll be able to smoothly find the tracked location on your map, even without prompting the guiding wind itself. Pay attention to your surroundings, and whether a subtle wind is pointing to a certain direction. Activating the guiding wind only makes it more obvious.

Allied NPCs that are part of your wolf pack can have quests that reward you with new gear or new techniques. Progressing these is always a good idea to have more options during battle.
Collect clues whenever you can to discover new areas where you can learn new techniques. Some areas introduce unique enemy mechanics, and adapting to them will help you conquer the land.
A golden bird flying nearby Atsu can point you to the direction of a point of interest, which is very useful for finding bamboo strikes, hot springs, Altars of Reflection, or Painting Spots.
Resources will be the main ingredient in improving Atsu's gear, and upgrading gear means steeper costs for the next upgrade. Picking up any stray resources in your area goes a long way in being prepared! That said, avoid selling your resources as the turnout is laughably low.
Certain NPCs can be interacted with, and they will usually point Atsu to a potential area you can explore or a new mission. These NPCs may be found in settlements or walking through the routes of Ezo. This mechanic functions similarly to the golden birds, and is primarily useful for finding sidequests to pursue.
Camping allows for many benefits, such as talking to your wolf pack, cooking, or playing the shamisen, Atsu's instrument. Both cooking and the shamisen offer some passive buffs that may be useful to you before tackling a hostile camp, or before starting a dangerous quest. You'll also be able to craft ammo, and upgrade your gear if the specific wolf pack member is present.
Keep an eye out for these things while exploring Ezo, most of the time Points of interests can be found by following environmental cues to locations, or by looking through your spyglass. Here' s what you should look out for:
| Cue | Lead to |
|---|---|
![]() Small Statues With Yellow Heads |
Small Jizo statues with yellow clothes lead to Altars of Reflection. |
![]() Buckets, Red trees, and Steam |
If you find buckets and towels, then there is a nearby Hot Spring. |
![]() A large rock with a tree on top |
You can spot a Wolf Den from far away by its distinctive rock formation and tree. |
![]() Rocks with Yellow Flowers |
Sumi-e Painting locations are marked by a large rock with yellow flowers. |
![]() Fireflies |
Large glowing fireflies will lead you to Ainu Items. |
![]() A Large Tree Wrapped in paper |
If you spot a large tree wrapped in paper then get ready for a fight, these are Dueling Trees from the Takezo the Unrivaled Myth Quest. |
![]() White Smoke |
White smoke in the distance often indicate a friendly NPC, Campfires, or Hot Springs. |
![]() Black Smoke |
Black smoke indicate Enemy Occupied camps or settlements. |
![]() Gold Kites |
If you see a Gold Kite in the sky, follow it to find a spot where you can learn a Shamisen Song . |
