The Charm of Mount Yotei is always a must have charm as it is the best for for defense. It lowers the damage you receive and you receive heals whenever you upgrade it. You can get the charm and upgrade it by completing all Reliquary puzzles.

2. Father's Charm

Effect: A gift from your father, so your sword flows like a brush stroke. Perfect Parries regain a minor amount of Health.

The Father's Charm is another great defense charm that allows you to heal after a perfect parry. When combined with the Charm of Mount Yotei, a perfect parry is almost, if not better than a regular heal using spirit.

The Charm of Futsunushi is a staple charm that all melee builds must have, especially for players using the Bounty Master Armor. This charm makes it easier to perfrom perfect parries and dodges, great for all melee encounters.

Effect: Taking damage reduces kill streak count by 2 instead of resetting it. Kill streaks power Onryo's Howl and other deadly techniques.

The Chaem of Onryo's Protection is great when storming enemy strongholds or areas, as getting hit will not reset your killstreak, it will simply take away one node. This charm makes it easier to clear enemy waves due to its support for Onryo's Howl or Ghost Stance.

Effect: Maximum Standoff Streak increased by 1. After a successful Standoff, an additional enemy will rush in and open themselves to a killing blow.

The Charm of Hachiman is grants an additional standoff steak which may be useful for enemy encounters. Depending on your upgrades to the standoff, you can kill about 4 to 5 enemies depending if you also have the wolf standoff skill unlocked.
