Time your block before an attack reaches you to execute a parry in Ghost of Yotei. Check out a guide on how to parry, tips to help you parry better, and the difference between a normal and perfect parry!
Press the L1 button just before the enemy's weapon reaches you to disrupt their attack. Observe the enemy's elbow, and as soon as it extends toward you, block with the L1 to execute a parry.
Enemies will sometimes initiate attacks with a red Glint. These attacks can only be avoided by dodging with the Circle (◯) button. However, certain red-glint attacks can be parried once you unlock a specific skill in the skill tree. After learning the skill, they will change from a red shimmer to a sort of blueish shimmer. Note is that these blue shimmers can only be parried and not blocked.
Once you see a gold glint on an enemy's weapon, hold the Triangle (△) button and release it as soon as you see the gold glint get larger, as this is the window to disarm your opponent. Getting hit with the gold-glint attack will disarm you instead.
Holding the R2 button, which allows you to change weapons, slows time during combat. This help you time parries more accurately, as the enemies move slowly. However, it's a risky technique, since you cannot dodge while holding R2.The Circle button is reserved for swapping to a different weapon instead while R2 is held.
If an enemy proves to be difficult, it's best to first learn their attack patterns by dodging instead of parrying, just so you can a sense of their rhythm. Once you’ve successfully dodged their attacks, switch to parrying. It will soon become second nature.
Successfully executing a perfect parry briefly slows down time and leaves the enemy vulnerable to a deadly counterattack. Normal enemies are instantly killed by the counterattack. Perfect parries have a smaller timing window than regular parries and are generally harder to perform.
