Counter Dojun by Switching Weapons
Throughout the fight, Dojun will switch between the Kusarigama and his Katana with Shield. If he is using the Kusarigama, the best weapon to use is the Yari, as it lets you keep poking him while he tries to create distance. However, once he switches to the Katana and Shield, immediately switch to the Kusarigama, since it can deal extra stagger damage against shielded enemies.
Make sure to upgrade your weapons before the fight to maximize your damage.

Stay Close to Avoid Ranged Attacks
Do not let Dojun create distance while he is using the Kusarigama. He has several ranged attacks that cannot be blocked or parried. It is highly recommended to stay on top of him to prevent him from using these attacks. Note that Dojun will always start the fight with this move.
Combat Guide and Advanced Fighting Tips
Watch Out for the Disarm
When Dojun switches to his Katana and Shield, he will sometimes use an attack that can disarm you. This move shows a bright yellow glow whenever it is used and it can be countered with a heavy attack.
However, if you cannot react in time, it is better to just focus on dodging instead of risking damage.
Cannot Parry When Disarmed
If Dojun successfully disarms you, you will not be able to block or parry his attacks. When this happens, create distance to lure him away and quickly recover your weapon as soon as you have the chance.
Listen for Dojun in the Smoke
Whenever Dojun throws a smoke bomb, it can be difficult to see him and avoid his attacks. Immediately press R3 to track his movements and look around to know where he is coming from. Dojun will only use this in the first phase and will not use it in the second phase.
Build Up Stagger with Parry and Dodge
It is better to focus on parrying and blocking Dojun's attacks rather than being on the offensive. You can still build up his stagger meter by blocking or parrying, so use this to your advantage and only attack when he is vulnerable.
Dealing Enough Damage Breaks the Shield
If you stagger and deal enough damage while he is holding his Katana and Shield, the Shield will break, making him more vulnerable to your attacks.

Starts at Red Crane Inn
Once you reach the Kitsune's Fate subquest in The Kitsune questline, go to the Red Crane Inn to regroup with Oyuki. From there, follow her until you reach Dojun.

Defeating Dojun lets you progress the main story and complete The Kitsune questline.
Onryo Armor Upgrade
After the cutscene, you will receive an Onryo Armor Upgrade. Your current Onryo Armor level will be 3 or 4, depending on whether you have also completed The Oni questline.

| Weapons |  Katana The trademark curved single-edged blade of the Japanese. The katana is an all-rounder melee weapon that can be used in general situations and is best used against sword-wielding enemies. Its moveset focuses on precise and fluid slashes.  Kusarigama The Kusarigama is a sickle with a ball-n'-chain attached to its end, making it capable attacking from afar and unconventional angles. Alongside being a weapon for stealth, it is capable of disarming shield-wielding enemies. Its moveset is comprised of hooks, quick takedowns, and swings that cover you.
