How to Upgrade Charms

Charms can be upgraded in Ghost of Yotei by accomplishing specific tasks mentioned in the Charm menu. These tasks are usually related to the charm itself, and have 3 tiers. See here for a complete guide on how to upgrade Charms, and how to upgrade charms fast!

Exploit Reload Checkpoint

If your charm calls for you to kill or stagger an enemy X amount of times, find an enemy camp or any enemies around the area. Once you find them, do whatever your charm is requesting you to do, then quickly reload the save! The enemies should respawn, and you'll be able to upgrade your charm fast.

Meet Special Conditions Before Upgrading

Special Conditions for upgrading charms

Upgrading charms require you to complete a task before being able to move it up a tier. A charm on a higher tier offers marginally better stats, and may be worth investing time to when it initially wasn't worth much at all. That said, not all charms can be upgraded.

Minor Charms Cannot Be Upgraded into a Major Charm

Having said all that, it is not possible to upgrade a minor charm into a major charm. The status of a charm will stay as it is throughout the entire playthough.

Higher Tier Charms Offer Better Stats Than Base Charms

Upgraded Charm Difference

Charms with higher tiers have better stats, and thus investing time into a charm may pay for itself. Some charms may ask you to defeat a certain amount of enemies, or to learn songs on the Sahmisen. The neat thing is that most actions you may have done before counts towards the charm's task count.
