I’m not sure if story progression matters a ton. Obviously it does when you’re first starting the game since you have to unlock trust events. But I know you have to have the character in order to have trust events with them.

When you see Alice at Seagaze Road (Failume Heights) in the morning, first pull her bunny tail, then tell her you wanted to see her reaction, and finally tell her that you wanted to see her cuter side. Gives significant trust
After shopping with Alice in the invite to Lumina Square, selecting "I've been watching you too" gives significant trust

I think hers may be bugged as I've been searching for multiple hours and haven't seen her once.(yes I did all of the story)
Alice (morning for me) on the ship at the Fantasy Resort. Pick "Let's scream together at the scary parts." -Significant Trust. The other two options are regular trust (I tested them).
My first encounter was (morning) Seagaze Road (west Failume Heights) - I greeted Alice normally (did not touch her ears or tail) and then I followed up apologizing for startling her and that I wanted to greet her normally. Regular trust. This was before I got her first level of trust (unlocks more locations). I like to invite characters first to unlock other trust locations with the first tier of trust.
Outside the Mystic Wares store Alice is with Yuzuha (I did morning). Pick the option: 2 - She wanted to pass the necklace on to someone who loves symmetry for Significant Trust.
Invite: Fantasy Resort. Atop lighthouse, chose “Feels like we’re the only ones left in the world” gave significant trust increase. And gained trust increase at the end of the event.
Random encounter (morning): Ballet Twins Road. When asked what to do with the bear, I chose “I can take it home, you know” then on the next choice “come see me whenever you want to appreciate cursed artifacts”. This gave significant trust increase.
