Scientific Explosion commission can be unlocked after getting a message from Colt'sExplosiveArt at around Inter-Knot level 44.

You also need to complete the two pre-requisite commissions, The Ethereal's Guide and Everything for a Perfect Explosion.

Collect 3 Rounds of Data From the Explosion Test Site

After accessing the commission in the HDD, grab the JackBox Bomb Bamboo Plug-In at the southwest corner from where you have spawned and collect 3 rounds of data from the explosion test site.

The bomb can be used to destroy obstacles and the test site can be located after going to the warp tile at the southeast corner.

Record 50 Data Points For 3 Rounds

Upon going down the warp pipe, the objective is to record 50 data points by moving from one tile to another 50 times. You will need to record 50 data points three times in three different maps.

After recording the data points, grab the observation data and head for the exit in the middle. Note that the objective will stay the same in each of the three maps.

Enemies Will Chase You Around

There will also be enemies that will chase you around while recording the data but the bomb bamboo plug-in can be used to defeat them easily. You will also be rewarded with gear coins upon defeating them.

If an enemy catches up to you, you can choose to activate overload, where your bomb explodes damaging you and the enemy, or you can fight the enemy.

Note that there will only be a maximum of 5 overload charges that you can use and you can also gain some charges when you choose to fight them instead.

Various Item Upgrades

There will also be various item upgrades available in each map that you can step on and upgrade your bomb bamboo plug-in. Each item upgrade you step on will give various upgrade choices.

Shop After Completing the Objective

There will be shop beside the exit and observation data in the middle of the map after you complete the objective. You can visit the shop to purchase upgrades for your bomb and overload charges.

Turn in the Test Data

After completing the third map of the explosion site test, you will spawn back to the very first map. Collect all the supply boxes and turn in the test data. You will need a total of 10000 gear coins to open the closed gates.
