Status Ailments in Metaphor: ReFantazio can make or break your battles if you don't know how to harness them well. Learn more about all Status Ailments in the game and what they do, and how to cure them in this guide!

Status Ailments are conditions cast upon targets that have adverse effects to them during battle. These ailments usually last for a couple of turns until they are cured or the target recovers.
The effects they cause may include losing a turn, taking damage over time, or lowering stats. Some spells can cause two or more of these setbacks to take effect.
There are two kinds of ailments in Metaphor: ReFantazio: Physical Ailments, ailments that stay with you even after battle, and Mental Ailments, ailments that get cured once battle is over.
Ailment | Description |
---|---|
Poison | After getting inflicted by the Poison ailment, your HP depletes every time you take an action. |
Paralysis | Paralysis makes it so that there's a high chance of an action failing to occur after selecting it. |
Malady | Your Strength, Magic, Endurance, Agility, and Luck are greatly reduced when inflicted with Malady. Additionally,HP and MP recovery effects are nullified, with recovery amounts becoming 0. |
Hex | When inflicted by Hex, half of any damage dealt is dealt to self as well. Additionally, resistance to Dark is greatly reduced, and susceptibility to status ailments is greatly increased. |
Burn | Burn works the same as poison as additional damage will taken after being attacked when affected. |
Frostbite | When affected with Frostbite, attack damage is greatly reduced. |
Physical Ailments consists of conditions that will damages you over time or prevent healing in general.
These ailments persists even after the battle ends so it's best to heal these ailments before continuing exploration.
Ailment | Description |
---|---|
Daze | When Dazed, your Hit Rate for attacks is greatly reduced. |
Charm | When you or your party member is Charmed, the character will act on their own, attacking allies or assisting enemies. |
Forget | When your party is inflicted with Forget, the affected character cannot use Archetype skills. |
Sleep | Your character cannot take any actions when asleep, and any physical attacks suffered are always critical hits. |
Rage | When Enraged, the affected character has higher attack power, but damage from enemies is greatly increased. All actions become normal weapon attacks. |
Anxiety | An Ally-only ailment preventing the use of Archetype skills. If attacked while afflicted, the enemy will not consume a Turn Icon. |
Stun | This is an enemy-only ailment. When stunned, they cannot act for one turn. |
Mental Ailments consists of conditions that focus on disabling control over party members or their skills.
They make combat harder to control and can result into a party member death if not dealt with quickly.
These ailments do not last until after the battle but healing them during combat is a priority.

A spoonful of this liquid medicine can quell the most violent of tempers. Cures Rage for one ally.

Blessed by a priest. Cures Hex for one ally.

Heartwarmer | Ailment Cure: A mysterious pouch that emits constant heat. Cures Frostbite for one ally. |
Panacea | Ailment Cure: A cure-all liquid medicine. Cures any status ailment for one ally. |
Almighty Panacea | Ailment Cure: A miracle-cure with an all-encompassing effect. Cures status ailments for all allies. |
Coney Stew | Ailment Cure: A nutrient-rich stew of meat and vegetables simmered in milk. Cures status ailments for all allies. |
Sulphurous Salt | Ailment Cure: Smells progressively worse as the subject regains consciousness. Curse Daze for one ally. |
Notebook of Remembrance | Ailment Cure: It's inscribed with experiences to remember. Cures Forget for one ally. |
Invigorating Steam Bun | Ailment Cure: A miracle-cure mugwort bun that is intensely bitter but very healthy. Cures status ailments for all allies. |
