Formations adds a big strategy aspect to combat in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Learn about formation assignments and how formations work here!
List of Contents
Party Formations is a combat mechanic that adds a layer of strategy centering on positioning, and team composition. In the Party menu, or even in the heat of battle, you are able to switch your party members's positions on the battlefield.
Their positioning will determine the amount of damage they receive throughout the battle.
Protagonist took less damage by being on the back row!
Taking from the Etrian Odyssey series, there are two types of formations in Metaphor: ReFantazio, Front and Back row.
Front row members are usually melee users and tanks, like a Warior or Knight archetype, who are able to be a sponge for damage but can also dish out hard-hitting melee attacks at the enemies.
Back row members are usually spellcasters and healers, like a Mage or Healer archetype, who are squishier but has a vast arsenal of magic attacks and support moves.
Certain moves by some enemies will only target a certain row at a time. Take into account who are in these rows and act accordingly.
