Choosing Magic helps you target weaknesses, while choosing Strength lets you deal heavy physical damage in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Check out this guide to see whether you should go for Strength or Magic, and learn about their advantages here.
List of Contents
Focusing on your Strength stat allows you to brute force through encounters. Since you are focusing on physical attacks, you can hit for more damage at a time. Dedicating some points to endurance and luck will also raise your defense and chances for critical hits, optimizing your physical attacks.
The main disadvantage of a Strength build is that once an enemy is resistant to physical damage there is not much your character can do unless you have a non-physical skill in your arsenal.
Focusing on your Magic stat gives more options when battling enemies. Magic provides you with more ways to target an enemy's weaknesses and different ways to support your party through ally buffs, healing, and enemy debuffs. You can dedicate some points to endurance and agility to improve your defense and dodging.
One of the main disadvantages of a Magic build is that your character will be physically weak and will be vulnerable to damage. Unless you dedicate some points to agility or endurance getting hit can be fatal.
We recommend focusing on Magic during the early game. Doing this gives you access to more varieties of spells and lets you target enemy weaknesses more easily. Targeting enemy weaknesses allows your party to take another turn during combat and can improve your chances to stun your enemy.
Items are also limited during early game so having a character with support skills like healing and buffs is also good to have when dungeon crawling.
At this point in the game, we recommend that you start transitioning from Magic to Strength Focus. A lot of late-game skills are physical damage-oriented and timing the transition right will be important in making sure that you can take full advantage of these skills.
Another option here is to retain your current stat focus. Having a dedicated build for your character has its advantages as your damage will still scale with your stat points. There are some limitations because of the dedication to one stat but this can be negated by planning your party around your character.
Late-game skills have a big advantage on physical Skills. You will be getting Almighty Skills, attacks that cannot be blocked, at higher levels. Having high strength can also allow you to brute force your way through encounters and give you a higher chance of defeating enemies in the overworld without having to go into squad battles.
Depending on how you build your protagonist, your party composition will have to be adjusted based on your focus. If you have a magic-focused protagonist make sure that at least one of your party members is physical attack-oriented or vice versa. This will help cover your weaknesses during encounters with enemies.
Best Party and Team Composition
Other than your stats you will also need to pay attention to your Archetype levels. Plan ahead! If you are planning to transition between stat focuses at any point in the game, make sure to level your preferred Archetype even if you are not using them at the moment. This will make sure that their skills don't get left behind and that your Archetype is usable once you transition.
