The first step in building teams effectively is by getting to know your characters. Check their Skills, but to get an idea of where to start in terms of their teams, always be sure to check their Additional Abilities first. This also applies to Bangboo.
Every Agent will have teammate requirements to activate this Additional Ability, which, in most cases, makes a significant difference in your party's DMG output. When these requirements are met, a smiley face icon will appear beside their names.
Some Agents may require a teammate that belongs to the same Faction as them, while others may require teammates of a specific Specialty or Attribute. When building teams, make determining this your first priority.

Now that you have determined your Agents' team requirements, you're going to have to think about the kind of team you wish to build. Do you want a Chain Attack team? An Anomaly and Disorder Team? A Rupture Team for pesky enemies with miasmic shields?
This is heavily influenced by your characters' Specialties. If you want a Chain Attack team, you're going to need a Stun character to initiate Chain Attacks by stunning enemies, and a DPS character to deal as much DMG as possible to the stunned target.
If you want an Anomaly and Disorder Team, you're going to need at least two Anomaly units. With all of these plus your Agents' team requirements in mind, you're well on your way to building an effective team.

It goes without saying that your team must have immense power and deal significant DMG. DPS characters, or damage-per-second characters, specialize in doing just that by brandishing extremely high-powered skills that take huge chunks off enemies' HP.
When building teams, always make sure that you have a DPS included. DPS characters are commonly found in the Attack, Anomaly, and Rupture Specialties, but in some cases, Agents of other Specialties can be built as DPS's, too.
For instance, Ben's shields and DMG output are dependent on his HP and DEF stats. You can build him chock full of HP and DEF while keeping his CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG up to turn him into a DPS without sacrificing much in the way of his role as a Defense Agent.
| Specialty | Specialization |
|---|---|
Attack
|
• Very high DMG output, especially against Stunned enemies. |
Anomaly
|
• Inflicts Attribute Anomalies that come with underlying effects and massive DMG. • 2 Anomalies on top of each other causes Disorder DMG. |
Rupture
|
• Bypasses shields and defenses and deals Sheer DMG directly to targets. • Also more effectively shreds shields than most. |
Stun
|
• Deals Daze DMG the most and stuns enemies the easiest out of all Specialties. Stunned enemies cannot move and take increased DMG. |
Support
|
• Bestows buffs to the entire team, among other boons such as healing. Sometimes provides DMG off-field, but normally low in DMG output. • Activates Quick Assists more than any other Specialty. |
Defense
|
• Grants teammates shields and other defensive enhancements. DMG output is relatively decent, but their crowning glory is their tankiness. |
A good Proxy must always be prepared for any and all situations and possible contingencies. Another important thing to note is a character's Specialty and Attribute, which play huge parts in combat.
Some combat situations will call for characters of a certain Attribute as its enemies will be weak against it. On top of that, some situations may call for characters of a specific Specialty, which further narrows down your options.
For instance, the enemy Miasma Ravager Avarus will have a Miasmic shield that Rupture Agents are most effective against. It is also weak to Fire and Ether. Using this intel, build a team of Fire and Ether Agents with at least one Rupture Agent.
Another good thing to keep in mind is agent placement when building a party, especially if you have characters that enable Quick Assists.
Some characters like Seth, Pulchra, and Pan Yinhu trigger Quick Assists to the character before them instead of after them. Hence, when forming teams containing these Agents, it would be best to put your DPS to the left of them in the lineup.

Finally, when building teams, it's also wise to bring along a Bangboo with you for additional DMG and Support. While it may seem like they aren't much help, Bangboo are actually very powerful, and they come in a pinch when in dire straits.
Some Bangboo can provide buffs and healing, while others can deal DMG on their own. In essence, Bangboo are your fourth party members.
Of course, as party members, they also have their own team requirements. Some Bangboo will require you to have a certain number of Agents that belong to a certain Faction, Specialty, or Attribute to activate their very own Additional Abilities!

It's time to put everything into practice. Say you're going up against the Miasma Priest in Notorious Hunt, who is weak to Ether, resistant to Ice, and likes to hide behind Miasmic shields. We're going to need a Rupture Agent to bypass and shred that shield.
Naturally, we'd also want to avoid using Ice Agents. Our options are Yidhari, Yixuan, and Manato, all of whom rely on HP for DMG. Yidhari is off the table due to their Ice resistance, so let's have Yixuan take the frontlines. For Support, we can look to either Astra or Lucia.
Lucia works better with Rupture Agents, so opt for her. For more CRIT DMG, we can throw in Ju Fufu, who also needs a Rupture Agent for her Additional Ability. Add in Belion thanks to two Yunkui Summit members, and you have your team!

With your strategies formulated based on the teams you have built, it would also be wise to try them out and see how effective they are in VR Training. You may spot some holes in your strategy and you will be able to adjust them accordingly.
Some team compositions may not work as well as one would initially think. For example, Evelyn's EX Special Attack is not as heavy of an attack as the combo finishers of Agents like Seed, which one can only learn via training in VR.
Therefore, Evelyn may be less effective when partnered with Aftershock units like Trigger whose Aftershock Attacks can only be triggered by Heavy Attacks. However, Ju Fufu's Aftershocks are triggered only when she has enough Might, making her viable for Evelyn.

Apart from Additional Abilities, it's also important to familiarize yourself with your characters' kits and capabilities. From there, take into consideration the capabilities of the other characters that you own, then form your strategies.
Finally, build your teams around those strategies to get an optimal team. For instance, say you need two teams and you have both Miyabi and Yixuan, an Anomaly DPS and a Rupture DPS. Additionally, you have 2 Support Agents: Astra and Lucia.
While it may seem tempting to pair Yixuan up with Astra, the latter works best in teams that require ATK and CRIT DMG. Lucia, however, thrives in Rupture teams as her skills increase Max HP. Therefore, Astra goes with Miyabi and Lucia goes with Yixuan.

To keep track of your teams and swap between them faster, make it a habit to use the Preset Team Configuration function, which lets you save party compositions and deploy them when the situation calls for it.
As of Version 2.3, the maximum number of preset teams that can be saved has been increased to 20!

Another good thing to keep in mind is your characters' equipment. Take note of which Drive Disc sets they have equipped and their respective 2-piece and 4-piece effects, as well as the W-Engine they currently wield.
These equipment can optimize your characters according to your strategies and can contribute largely to how you formulate your teams.
For instance, if Seth were to equip the Proto Punk Drive Disc set, it would be best to have him in a team with Anomaly Agents that can use Defensive Assists to fully take advantage of its 4-piece effect. This takes characters like Grace out of your options.
