Here's a beginner's guide on what you need to know before playing Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ). Check out the early game tips, recommended agents, how to keep progressing, and all other gameplay tips and tricks need!
A recurring thing among Hoyoverse games is that it takes a long time to make it to the Gacha banner, called Signal Searches in ZZZ. Even then, the S-class characters will eventually come, and A-class Agents that are easier to obtain can do the job just fine.
Reroll Guide - Is It Worth It?
Doing the Main Story unlocks more and more features of the game that will greatly help in the early game!
Look out for red speech balloons on top of a character's head or on an objected; that's the sign that interacting with them will proceed with the Main Story.
After clearing Chapter 1 of the Main Story, the VR Training Mode will be unlocked. It is highly recommended to do this a lot to gain materials that will help level up your characters quickly.
Certain Missing Mini Cargo Trucks can be found around the city block, and they can be easily spotted by the bright blue X on its side. Opening these will grant the player some EXP items and Dennies as a reward!
Much like its sister games from Hoyoverse, Zenless Zone Zero also has a Daily Check-in website where Proxies can go and log in daily to obtain free items.
The day-by-day reward does not look like much but it eventually accumulates over time, letting players have the necessary materials in the long run.

Attack Agents are usually the main DPS of a team, as their entire kit is built to deal as much damage as possible.
For those who are trying to get used to ZZZ's combat system, Soukaku is a great choice for beginners as she deals lots of damage despite being a Support Agent!
If you have her in your account, she can carry you from her damage alone!
Players can claim a free copy of Soukaku as soon as they complete a certain point of Shiyu Defense, which is unlocked after starting Chapter 2!
The first Limited Signal Search Banner, Mellow Waveride, features the debut of Ellen Joe as a playable S-Rank Agent. She is currently on top of the Tier List as one of the best Attack Agents in the entire game!

The two A-Rank Agents, Soukaku and Anton, are also really good A-Rank DPS units among the current roster of Agents. It is highly recommended to pull on this Limited Banner if your current roster is lacking in terms of damage!

Stun Agents specialize in increasing enemy Daze, and immobilizes them once the meter is full. When that happens, your team can go into Chain Attacks or deal even heavier DMG on their own.
Out of the recommended three, Anby is given at the start of the game for free; use this to your advantage and level her up immediately.

Each Support Agent has their own unique way of providing utility to the team. For example, Nicole is good with crowd control, bunching up lots of enemies into one place to make it easier to deal damage all at once.
Despite being an Anomaly character, Grace works as a sub-DPS for other Electric Agents due to her Assist skills focusing on increasing the effect of the Electric Anomaly

・Increase Inter-Knot Level ・Level Your W-Engines ・Equip Driver Discs ・Do Your Dailies ・Do Sub-Quests ・Do Hollow Zero ・Play The Events |
Make it a priority to keep increasing your Inter-Knot Level as well! Reaching certain milestones can break the level cap of the Agents, allowing them to be leveled up even further!
How to Raise Your Inter-Knot Level
A W-Engine can be considered an Agent's weapon, providing an increase of stats and a passive that innately boost their abilities.
List of W-Engines by Rank | ||

B-Rank | A-Rank | S-Rank |
Make sure to read the descriptions of your W-Engines before you equip them with one! Each one is exclusively used between Agents of five different specialties: Attack, Defense, Support, Stun, and Anomaly!
Drive Discs are additional equipment that further provides stats to your Agents. Equipping two or four of the same name will trigger a special set effect that provides additional bonus effects.
However, in the early game, it might be hard to get a full set of Drive Discs of the same name. Focus on equipping them first to your best Agent to increase their stats as much as possible.
Make it a point to go to Bardic Needle as soon as the store is unlocked. There are limited A-Rank Drive Discs which are great for beginners who are just focusing on boosting stats as much as possible immediately.
Daily Errands provide the player a certain set of rewards that will help strengthen the Agents after clearing a certain number of them. Some of the Daily Errands also accumulate into points in increasing the New Eridu City Fund Plans, which is ZZZ's take on the Battle Pass system.
Do not forget to claim your rewards once finished with your Daily Errands! They refresh regardless if you have claimed them or not upon server reset!
Some of the commissions, especially Exploration Commissions, have non-combat activities like puzzles that do not involve any form of combat. It is basically free rewards if you ever come across these puzzles!
After clearing Chapter 1, various endgame mode content is unlocked, and these are some of the best ways to get training and leveling materials for your Agents.
Hollow Zero is an endgame game mode, where the gameplay is circled around solving puzzles, gaining special buffs and defeating all enemies
This game mode is simple to do even if your Agents are not yet fully built, so do not hesitate to do this game mode as soon as possible!
Shiyu Defense is another endgame mode unlocked after completing the second Inter-Knot Reputation Rank-Up Mission.
This game mode is more challenging as it involves defeating a certain number of enemies under a time limit!
Similar to Combat Commissions in the HDD, Rally Commissions are battle-focused challenges that takes players straight into very challenging fights.
Rally Commissions are one-time clears, which means players can obtain the rewards for this endgame content once.
Every so often, events will be featured prominently in the game, and this is one of the best ways to get crucial items like leveling materials, Dennies and W-Engines. They usually take a long time to do and complete, so be ready to commit some time into doing events when you can!
