Subsumer Boss Guide: Recommended Setup and How to Beat

How to Beat Subsumer

To aid in your battle against Subsumer, here are some tips that you can utilize in your fight.

1. Attack its Arms
2. Use Light-based Artes

Attack its Arms

Subsumer has three primary Weak Points that you can attack. During the early and middle stages of the fight, both of its arms will be open to your attacks – Subsumer will often lower one of its arms down to ground-level, allowing you easier access for attacks.

Use Light-based Artes

Like most foes on Rena, Subsumer will be weak to Light-based attacks. Use these attacks on its Weak Points to more easily shatter them to draw the fight to a close much faster.

Attack From a Distance

Subsumer is armed with several attacks that can harm you if you get too close. By using Rinwell and Shionne's long-ranged attacks, you can deal high amounts of damage while staying far away from the boss. This lessens the chance of you getting caught up in its attacks such as its miniature Black Holes.

Don't Attack its Abdomen Up Close

Once the Weak Points on both of its arms have been destroyed, be careful not to attack the abdomen with Alphen or Law. Instead, use Shionne and Rinwell to attack from a distance – this is to avoid taking damage whenever Subsumer summons a miniature Black Hole around itself.

Primary Attacker For Arms

As Alphen, focus your attacks on the Weak Points on Subsumer's arms – unleash everything you have against them, activating Boost Strikes to extend your combos as much as possible.

Long-ranged Attacker and Healer

When controlling Shionne, be careful not to get too close to the boss. Instead, stay back and make use of her many long-ranged Artes that can safely cause damage while staying safe from many of the Dark attacks Subsumer can perform. Also keep an eye on your party member's HP and cast Healing Artes when needed. Dohalim can also offer healing support if he is in your active party.

Attack From a Distance

Similar to Shionne, Rinwell can attack from far-away. As the primary member in your party that has multiple Light-based Artes, it is best to keep her safe and away from harm when she is casting her Astral Artes. Casting Celestial Hammer in particular is recommended, as it is quick and offers decent Light-based damage.

Use for Mystic Artes

Law will be another melee attacker, focusing on the boss' weakpoints alongside Alphen. If you have been spending SP on skills that boost Overlimit and Mystic Artes for Law, this is another very effective tool at your disposal. If you see Law, or any other character enter Overlimit mode, switch to them and spam their most powerful artes and finish it off with their Mystic Arte.

Subsumer Attack Patterns

Melee Attacks

The boss will perform this attack before the weakpoints on its arms break. Subsumer will push its fist forward, sliding it across the ground. Getting caught in this attack can knock you back – thankfully, it is easy to avoid this attack due to the long start up animation. Also if you are using aerial attacks, this attack will likely miss you entirely.

Dark Beams

Subsumer will cause beams of dark energy to fall from the sky, aimed wherever your controlled character is. It is recommended that during this attack, you move away from Subsumer and your party to avoid any potential damage to your allies.

Black Hole

The boss' special attack, where a small orb will slowly descend to the ground opening up a dark vortex. It is difficult to avoid taking damage from this attack, but you can minimize the damage that you take by staying as far aways as possible from the center of the vortex.
