Mantis Stats and General Info

Mantis Location

Map Actual Location

The Mantis appears in its location the first time you arrive at Sandinus Ravine near the beginning of the game. Defeating it is required to complete the sub-quest Giant Zeugle Hunt. It's recommended to fight it later once you have the full party and are at least level 40.

How to Beat Mantis

Tips

Use Boost Attacks Often

Use Boost Attacks Often.gif

Use Alphen's boost attack to boost break the Mantis as much as you can. This will give you time to safely attack the Mantis. You can also use Kisara's boost attack for a boost break when the Mantis starts charging around.

Other party members' boost attacks can also provide decent damage so use them as much as you can as boost attacks can also instantly restore AG.

Target its Weak Point

Target its Weak Point.gif

Mantis' Weak Point can be found on its front left leg. Dealing damage to it may be difficult due to Mantis' quick movements, so it is highly suggested that you perform dodges when you can in order to trigger quick counterattacks.

Use Wind Attacks

Use Wind Attacks.gif

Mantis is an Earth-based enemy, and so is weak against Wind attacks. You can make use of Rinwell's spells to exploit Mantis' elemental weakness.

Ignore the Bees

Try to Avoid the Bees.gif

Once its life has been drained to half, a swarm of bees will pop up, surrounding Mantis and your party. On lower difficulties such as Story or Normal, the damage from these bees can be negligible, which means that you can ignore them altogether in favor of dealing more damage against Mantis.

Focus on the Mantis and you'll passively take out these bees especially if you're using AoE attacks such as boost attacks.

Switch between Alphen and Law

We recommend using Alphen in this fight as he's tankier than Law and can deal decent amounts of damage. Since you can't cancel your artes with a dodge, it will be difficult to maintain Law's Awakening in this fight. Use Law only if you're used to his moveset especially in dodging attacks.

Use boost attack for instant boost break

Alphen's boost attack can down Mantis instantly, which lets your party attack it safely. Controlling Alphen also makes your boost attack charge faster if you can perform combos uninterrupted.

If you can maintain Law's Awakening, his damage output can break the Mantis' core easily. Switch to Law whenever you boost break the Mantis so he can build up his Awakening safely.

Keep aggro away from Shionne

Shionne will be your main healer in this battle so you must keep her alive. You can equip her with an accessory with Decrease Aggro L skill or retain aggro on your melee characters.

Mantis Attack Patterns

Claw Swipe

Mantis - Claw Swipe.gif
When trying to attack Mantis at close range, it will use either of its frontal claws to take swipes at you. These are avoidable, and it is suggested that you go for a perfect dodge and counterattack to cause damage against its Weak Point.

Once its HP reaches below 50%, the Mantis will start to swipe twice when using this attack.

Charge Attack

Mantis - Charge Attack.gif
Spotting Mantis' Charge Attack is difficult to do as it has a very brief start up animation. It will rear its claws in front of it, close to its body, before rushing forward. Getting hit by this attack will cause you to be knocked aside or to the ground and causes a significant amount of damage to you.

Claw Slam

Mantis - Claw Slam.gif
A medium-ranged attack that Mantis can perform, where it will raise both of its claws in the air before slamming them down into the ground, causing a shockwave of rocks to trail forwards.

Charged Claw Attack

Mantis - Charged Claw Attack.gif
Its Charged Claw Attack will see Mantis raise its claws high above its head. It will allow itself to build up the attack for a few seconds, enough for you to safely move away before swinging it down against you. Getting hit by this attack will cause tremendous amounts of damage against you or your allies who are close enough for Mantis to hit.

Wing Flaps

Mantis - Wing Flaps.gif
Often occuring when it reaches its Over Limit, Mantis will flap the wings it has on its back while standing in place. Staying close to it while this happens will cause a small amount of damage against you.
