This is a guide on how to lock on to enemies in Tales of Arise! Learn how to target enemies, how to switch lock on targets, and how to direct Boost Attacks!
List of Contents
At the beginning of each battle, a target will already be locked-on automatically as soon as you can move your character. The Lock On system in Tales of Arise allows you to focus your controlled character's attacks on one enemy. This includes all forms of attack from your controlled character such as Regular Attacks, Artes, and Boost Attacks.

The button used for quickly changing Lock On is for the PS4/PS5 platforms and may be different on other consoles.
Changing targets during combat is entirely possible by tapping on the Target button control for your console. Tapping this button will shift targets away from your currently locked-on enemy and towards the closest enemy to you.
Another method to quickly do this is by successfully managing to attack an enemy that isn't being targeted. The lock on will shift towards that enemy on a successful hit.

The button combination for Selective Targeting is for the PS4/PS5 platforms and may be different on other consoles.
You can also selectively choose which enemy you can target. This is done by holding down the Target button on your console and moving the run/walk keys or thumbstick into the direction of a desired target.
This also allows you to "scan" each enemy you point towards revealing their Element and Type, giving you clues on how you can fight each enemy much more effectively.
The Weak Points, if any are available, can be specifically targeted during combat. This makes fighting against larger enemies with Weak Points easier, and is a useful tool to try against Bosses.
Targeting Weak Points cannot be done when tapping the target button however. To target these points, players will need to selectively choose it by holding down the target button and moving the move keys/thumbstick.
Boost Attacks, from either a character you control or others, can be directed towards a specific enemy during combat by using the lock on feature. Any enemy that you are currently locked-on to will be the subject of any Boost Attack you trigger.
