Tales of Arise - Difficulty Mode Differences: Which Should You Choose

Tales of Arise has several difficulty modes to choose from that you can change in-game when outside of battle. Read on to learn the differences between the Difficulty Modes, which difficulty to choose, and also how to change difficulties.

Difference Between Difficulty Modes

List of Difficulty Modes

Difficulty Modes In-game Description
Story Recommended for players who come to RPGs for the story first and combat second, letting them focus on enjoying the plot and characters.
Normal The standard difficulty level. Recommended for players who enjoy both story and combat alike, offering fights that are balanced just right.
Moderate Recommended for players who find Normal mode too easy, making for tougher fights that offer increased Combat Points to boot.
Hard Recommended for players seeking an even greater challenge. Enemies hit harder and there are even more Combat Points up for grabs.

DLC Difficulty

Difficulty Modes In-game Description
Very Easy Recommended for action game novices and players who want to breeze through battle while still enjoying the thrills of combat.
Unknown Recommended for those looking for the fights of their lives. One wrong move and you're finished. You've been warned.

In October 2021, Tales of Arise released an Additional Difficulty Pack, a free DLC that added two more difficulties to cater to a wider range of players and their familiarity with action RPGs.

Score Bonuses on Higher Difficulties

Tales of Arise - Difficulty Mode Score Bonuses

The score bonus multiplier shown after the end of battle is higher on higher difficulties, giving you higher scores. Keep in mind that your performance in battle also affects your score.

This bonus is calculated by your base score multiplied by your present difficulty's bonus multiplier, as seen on the table below. However, this has an inverse effect on Story mode as it will actually divide your score by half.

Score Bonus Multiplier
Story Base x 0.50
Normal None
Moderate x 1.25
Hard x 1.50

Higher HP Values for Enemies

Tales of Arise - Difficulty Modes HP Value Difference
On higher difficulty modes, all enemies have increased HP pools, making them tougher and more time consuming to beat. This includes large Zeugles and bosses.

Enemies Deal More Damage to You

Tales of Arise - Higher Damage on Higher Difficulty
Enemies will hit harder on higher difficulty modes. An awakened Zeugle will be most dangerous in Hard difficulty as it can one-shot you if you are not careful.

Healing may get tougher on higher difficulties, and as a result, you will need to manage your CP use accordingly.
