This is a guide on how to increase Combat Points in Tales of Arise. Learn how you can raise the amount of Combat Points rewarded as well as conditions that lower your Battle Score.
List of Contents
The score that appears after each fight is your score based on battle time and the overall result of the fight, and the total score is known as Combat Points. The better the fight goes, the more Combat Points you will receive at the end. Of course, if the battle goes poorly, the score will lower accordingly.
Bonus SP awarded at the end of battles depends on how many Combat Points you receive in your Score. Since SP is used to gain skills from the Skill Panel, you'll want to aim for a high Battle Score as much as possible.
By regularly getting high Battle Scores, your party members' Proficiency for Artes will greatly increase. Raising Proficiency to a certain point will result in characters learning new Artes mid-battle.
Factors That Affect Battle Score | |
---|---|
・Finish with Mystic Artes | ・Use Boost Strikes |
・Use Boost Attacks | ・Long Combo Chains |
・End Fights Quickly | ・Fight Many Foes |
・Battle Chain Bonus | ・Defeat Rare or Strong Foes |
・Higher Difficulty Settings | - |
You will receive more Combat Points by defeating enemies with Mystic Artes. As soon as you enter Over Limit mode, keep an eye on the meter and execute a Mystic Arte before it runs out.
Performing Boost Strikes also raises the amount of Combat Points received from battles. Aim to use more Boost Strikes in battle by landing long combo strings. This will fill up the diamond shaped Boost Strike meter displayed over enemies in battle. Once full you can execute a Boost Strike by pressing a direction on the D-Pad.
Another way of increasing Combat Points is by using Boost Attacks. The more frequently you use Boost Attacks in battle, the higher your score will be at the end.
Each character's Boost Attack can down certain enemies types, or enemies that are performing certain attacks. By successfully downing an enemy, the number of Combat Points you receive will increase more than it would for using a Boost Attack that doesn't down an enemy. Pay close attention to enemies and exploit their weaknesses with Boost Attacks to improve your Score.
The longer your highest combo in battle is, the more Combat Points you will receive. Be sure to make good use of Boost Attacks since they also restore AG when used, which will allow you to keep your combo going for longer.
How to Restore AG (Artes Gauge)
The shorter the battle is, the more Combat Points you will receive at the end. It can be difficult to defeat some enemies in a short amount of time, especially if they are above your level, however this is more effective when facing off against enemies at your level or below.
The more enemies on the field during a battle, the more Combat Points you will receive. If you're aiming for a high Battle Score, you can aggro two nearby groups of enemies on the overworld and enter battle with one large group of enemies.
After unlocking the Battle Chain Bonus, you can battle goup after group of enemies to raise your Battle Chain Bonus. This raises the amount of Combat Points you receive in each battle while this bonus is active. It's best to have your Battle Chain Bonus meter full as much as possible to maximize your Battle Score.
Defeating rare enemies or Gigants will reward you with more Combat Points than regular enemies. In addition, these types of enemies will also give high amounts of EXP and SP when defeated, so it's recommended to take them on as soon as your party is up to the task.
Battle Bonuses on higher difficulties will give a higher Combat Points on the results screen. If you are feeling confident, switching your difficulty setting to Hard mode to gain extra SP can be an effective strategy.
Difficulty | Battle Score Bonus |
---|---|
Story | x0.5 |
Normal | x1 |
Moderate | x1.25 |
Hard | x1.5 |
Losing Battles Using Items Getting KO'd in Combat Taking Too Much Time to Fight
|
If your party is completely wiped out, you won't receive any Combat Points. The only other downside to being defeated in battle is a loss of CP to recover the party.
What Happens When All Allies Die?
The more you use items in battle, the lower your Battle Score will be. It's best to use healing artes as much as possible before resorting to items to avoid lowering your Battle Score.
When a character's HP reaches 0 in battle, the Combat Points you will receive decrease. For this reason it is important to prioritize healing party members with low HP to avoid lowering your Battle Score. If you are out of healing options, an alternative is to swtich that character out for another to avoid a KO.
The Longer a battle lasts, the lower your Battle Score will be. It's best to finish off fights as fast as possible to preserve your Combat Points. This incentivises making the best use of your Artes to exploit enemy weaknesses to take them down quickly.
