List of All Files and Where to Find Them

This is a guide to the locations of all Files in the game Resident Evil Village (Resident Evil 8). To know where to find all the Files in the game, read on!

What are Files?

Files are notes scattered throughout the game Resident Evil Village (Resident Evil 8). They hold information about past events and may contain crucial information about understanding the story of the game.

Why Collect the Files?

Complete the Bookworm Challenge

You will be awarded Completion Points (CP) for reading and collecting all 47 Files found throughout the Village. You can use these Points to buy weapons and items like Infinite Ammo from the Extra Contents Shop.

Prologue Files and Locations

Fridge Memo

A meal plan for Rose. This file is the pinned note on the fridge in Ethan's home.

Old News Clipping

Newspaper clippings about the events in the past game that took place in Louisiana. This file is in the spare room of Ethan's house.

Ethan's Diary

An entry about Ethan adjusting to his new life. This file is on Ethan's laptop.

Medical Checkup Report

This file contains information about Rose's medical records. This file is inside the drawer beside Ethan's laptop.

Mission Briefing

This file contains information about the mission to kill Mia and secure Ethan and Rose. This file is by the vehicle transporting you after it crashed.

Village Files and their Locations

Scribbled Note

This note contains a short ominous poem about the Lycans. This file can be found at the first house on the left when you enter The Village.

"Goats of Warding" Placard

The Village believes that the Goat Idols are what brings protection to them. This file is in the same shrine that houses the first Goat Idol.

Dangerous Creatures

A letter addressed to Luiza stating the situation of one of the villagers. This file is inside Luiza's house and cannot be accessed a second time.

Castle Dimitrescu FIles and Locations

Guest Book

This note contains information about the guests staying at Castle Dimitrescu. This file is in the Entrance Hall of Castle Dimitrescu.

The Labyrinths

This note contains information about Norshteyn's Labyrinth. This file is in the Merchant's Room in Castle Dimitrescu.

Winemaking History

This note contains information about the winemaking history of Castle Dimitrescu. This file is in the wine room of Castle Dimitrescu.

Maid's Diary

A diary entry of one of the past maids of Castle Dimitrescu; this file is on a shelf in the basement going to the Distillery Room.

Treatment Candidates

This note is an entry of the experiments done on presumably previous staff members in Castle Dimitrescu. This file is in the Chamber of Solace.

Observation Report

This note contains observations regarding four women for reasons unknown. This file is in the Chamber of Solace.

A Cook's Diary

This diary entry depicts the horrible fate that befalls those who commit misdeeds in Castle Dimitrescu. This file is in one of the cupboards in the Kitchen.

Alcina Dimitrescu's Diary

This diary entry contains Lady Dimitrescu's sentiments towards Mother Miranda's decision. This file is in Lady's Dimitrescu's chambers.

Grand Chambermaid's Notice

This note is from the previous Grand Chambermaid regarding a missing lipstick. This file is on top of the drawer in the hallway to the Opera hall.

Further Observations

This note contains the observations during the "birth" of Lady Dimitrescu's daughters. This file is at the end of the hallway towards the Opera hall.

Insect Observations

This note contains information about the flies that composed the Daughters of Dimitrescu. This file is on a table in the middle of the Opera hall near the piano.

Rumors of a Dagger

This note contains a rumor about a dagger capable of killing demons. This file is on a table in the Attic.

Village 2nd Visit Files and Locations

Craftsman's Note

A note left by one of the villagers; this file is in the first house you see after escaping Castle Dimitrescu. Inside the house, this file sits on top of a table.

Leonardo's Message

This file was a note left by Leonardo, one of the villagers who expressed concern over the cries he heard from the house with the red chimney. This note is inside the house directly at the right-hand side of the Maiden of War.

Note on the Luthier's House

This note reveals where to find the key to the Luthier's house. This note is on the door of the Luthier's House.

Eugen's Diary

This file recalls the experience of Eugen, one of Mother Miranda's past servants. This note is in the house with the red chimney. Climb up the ladder in the back to access the house from the hole in the roof.

Church Computer

In your 2nd visit to the Village, a computer is now inside the Church. Examine it to get this file.

House Beneviento File and Location

Gardener's Diary

Once you complete House Beneviento, the Gardener's house will unlock. The file is located on top of a table as you enter the house.

Moreau's Reservoir Files and Locations

Vasile's Final Testament

As soon as you unlock the gate and walk down to Moreau's Reservoir, a Varcolac will attack you. After the cutscene, you will be inside a house. The file is attached to a corpse.

The Reservoir and the Giant Fish

Just before you ride the boat, check the boathouse on your right. The file is inside the boathouse.

Changing the Crank

On your way to The Drowned Houses, there is a truck before you proceed. The file is on the truck seat.

Moreau's Diary 1

Before your battle with Moreau, this file is in the first house you see as you enter the area.

Moreau's Diary 2

After your battle with Moreau, this file is in the room to your left just before you open the gate.

Moreau's Diary of Experiments

This file is next to the chest containing Moreau's Hidden Weapon, the M1851 Wolfsbane.

Village 4th Visit Files and Locations

Analysis Results

Take the boat from The Lone Road. Head down until you find somewhere to disembark. Go inside the cave to the right. This file is at the very end of the tunnel. Examine the computer to read this file.

Ernest's Diary

After getting the Cannibal's Plunder, check the backroom to find shelves of meat. This file is on top of the table.

Stronghold Files and Locations

Officer's Diary

Just before entering the boss area, you will find a Typewriter in the basement of the Stronghold. The file is on the floor next to the Typewriter.

Experiment Notes

Just before you exit the underground passage from the Stronghold, take a left turn and go to the end of the hallway. The file is on top of a table.

Heisenberg's Factory Files and Locations

Development Note 1

As you climb the stairs from B4 to MB4, the small room you enter is where you will find the file on the table.

Development Note 2

After climbing the giant grinder, the room at the end of the stairs has a table on your left. The file is on that table.

Sturm

After opening the door with Heisenberg's key, the room ahead will contain some supplies and a note. This file is in a room just before you face Sturm.

Heisenberg's Diary

Before going to the Cargo Bay, examine the Control Room. Crawl through the hole in the wall. The file is on top of the table in the adjacent room.

Chris' Computer

After your cutscene with Chris Redfield, you will see a table with a computer. Just before you fight Heisenberg, examine the computer.

Finale Files and Locations

Moreau's Medical Report

This file contains information about Moreau's evaluation as an unsuitable vessel for Eva. This file is in Miranda's Laboratory.

Dimitrescu's Medical Report

This file contains information about Lady Dimitrescu's evaluation as an unsuitable vessel for Eva. This file is in Miranda's Laboratory.

Heisenberg's Medical Report

This file contains information about Heisenberg's evaluation as an unsuitable vessel for Eva. This file is in Miranda's Laboratory.

Donna's Medical Report

This file contains information about Donna Beneviento's evaluation as an unsuitable vessel for Eva. This file is in Miranda's Laboratory.

Spencer's Letter

This file is a letter from Spencer about the "progenitor" in Africa. This file is in Miranda's Laboratory.

Miranda's Diary

This file recalls the experience of Mother Miranda regarding the loss of her daughter, Eva. This file is in Miranda's Laboratory.
