The Knives Out Achievement also counts as a Challenge. Successfully completing it provides players with 70,000 CP.
Knives Out Achievement Tips |
---|
✔ It is much better to try going after this achievement on New Game+. You'll have access to other close combat weapons as well as know what to do in the Main Story. ✔ Block often. It's difficult to avoid taking damage due to having to fight enemies up close. ✔ Not all enemies you encounter are worth fighting. You can run away from enemies if you wish – this saves you both time and healing items you'll need in Boss Fights. ✔ Instances where you are required to use your gun, do not count against this challenge, such as cases like the first phase of the Heisenberg Boss fight. ✔ You can complete this challenge as well as the Dashing Dad Achievement at the same time. ✔ Although you can use the basic Knife you receive in the Main Story, it is much better to use the Karambit Knife or the LZ Answerer. These are close combat weapons you can unlock if you've finished the game once and completed all Mercenaries Stages on SS Rank or higher, respectively. ✔ Play aggressively – playing on the defensive increases the risk of you having to use more health items when fighting against enemies, particularly bosses. By being on the attack, you'll reduce the amount of time you have to dedicate to bring opponents down, and depending on how you play, reduce the need to use healing items as well. |
While finishing the game once is not a requirement, it will make things easier for you moving forwards as you try to get the Knives Out Achievement. You'll need the knowledge of where to get items and how to solve puzzles, along with where enemies tend to pop up in the different areas of the game to make your playthrough with just a knife go easier.
Finishing the game also unlocks the Extra Content Shop, allowing you to choose two other close combat weapons apart from the Basic Knife.
Finishing the game using only Knives is a challenge in and of itself, but Resident Evil Village allows you to reduce the difficulty if you so wish. Running through a playthrough on Casual makes enemies less aggressive than how they are on higher difficulties. This allows you to cut through enemies like butter.
There will be times where using a ranged weapon is required to proceed through areas in the main story. So long as you avoid shooting at any enemies, you'll be able to finish this challenge with no problems. However, you can check the Challenges Page on the pause menu to make sure.
Navigate to the Knives Out section, where you can find out if you've used a weapon. If you have, load up an earlier save until you can find one where you haven't used any ranged weapons.
As previously mentioned, doing a run that's devoid of any ranged weapon use is impossible. Certain Boss Fights will require you to use a ranged weapon, such as the ending sequence for the fight against Mother Miranda.
Since you'll be fighting enemies up close, taking damage is inevitable. This makes healing items a necessary component of any run you're going to try when getting the Knives Out Achievement, so having more than than just one healing item in your inventory is a must.
Karambit Knife | LZ Answerer | Knife |
Although using the basic Knife can still get the achievement, it is not recommended by any means. It is the weakest melee weapon in the game, making Boss Fights that much more grueling.
The recommended weapon to use for this Achievement is the Karambit Knife, which can be purchased from the Extra Content Shop once you have completed the game once. However, if you wish to have an easier time going through the story again, the LZ Answerer is another good alternative – though getting it is one of the hardest things to do in Resident Evil Village.
