This is a guide on how to unlock the Unstable Rift in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) Zombies. Learn how to unlock the Unstable Rift, the locations of all Obelisks, and all Unstable Rift rewards!
How to Unlock Unstable Rift
- Activate 3 Obelisks
- Kill Zombies Inside the Circle
- Enter the Unstable Rift Portal
- Survive 5 Waves of Endless Zombies
Activate 3 Obelisks with the Required Ammo Mod
To unlock the Unstable Rift, you will have to activate 3 Obelisks scattered around the map. Proceed to any of the obelisks and equip the appropriate Ammo Mod to activate the seal. The required Ammo Mod can be found engraved on the obelisk itself.
Kill Zombies Inside the Circle Using the Correct Ammo Mod
Once the obelisk's seal has been activated, you can start killing zombies inside the circle using the required Ammo Mod to power it up. If you kill a zombie with the incorrect Ammo Mod, the whole process will fail and you will have to do it all over again.
Enter the Unstable Rift Portal
After successfully activating 3 Obelisks, the location of the Unstable Rift portal will pop up on your map; marked by a red circle icon. Head over there and interact with the portal to initiate a vote. Once you or all your squadmates have voted Yes, you will immediately be transported to the Unstable Rift.
Survive 5 Waves of Endless Zombies
Inside the Unstable Rift, you will have to defend yourself against 5 waves of endless hordes of zombies. Each wave has a Special Zombie boss that you will have to defeat before you can advance to the next round. Upon killing the final boss in the fifth wave, the exfil portal will appear which you can use to safely exit the Unstable Rift.
In addition, you will also start out with all perks equipped, a free weapon upgrade to Pack-a-Punch Level 3, a Golden Armor Plate, and a Self-Revive Kit.

Unstable Rift Rewards
Mark of the Survivor Camo
Surviving all 5 waves of the Unstable Rift will reward you with the Mark of the Survivor camo.
List of All Camo Challenges for Every Weapon
Removes Cooldown of Insured Weapon and Schematics
Completing the Unstable Rift also removes the cooldown timer of all Insured Weapons and Schematics.
